Good kid but he needs to be running our G League successfully for a couple of years before his name is even brought up

yup just ugly basketball we got going on.Not sure we want to start developing castle this way.Its like we gave up on scouting
and developing players.
Last years SL team sans Wemby was so much better to watch with Sidy, Barlow, Wesley, Shampenny & Branham. Even Bediako

Last place looks the same either way.

It's the result of brain-drain. They should have some lightly tenured assistant coaches coming up like with Hardy and Hammond a decade ago. This other coach may be good in time, but there should've been someone in front of him in the pecking order taking this year while he played at being an assistant.

Not disagreeing, but the level of talent on the SL roster isn't exactly helping.

The assistant coaches are looking more and more like your generic NBA2k coach.

Institutional rot thanks to a massive narcissist running the show.
Just hope at this point we can hold onto Wemby somehow because the 'omg playing for Pop' shine is going to wear off at some point when him and his camp realize the game has passed the old man by.

I think failure is part of the process.
He's just at stage 1

Part of me wonders if other coaches took a look at the SL roster and said "no thanks" when offered to coach it, leaving it to Trevino. Castle's the only surefire NBA quality player on this team and only Sidy and Bouyea are at least decent G League level players. This is the worst Summer League roster that the Spurs have ever put together and certainly the one with the worst spacing.

The lack of a quality coaching pipeline at this point is one of the bigger sneaky concerns about this team. Given Pop's age you'd think there would be a clear successor in the wings, learning from the man himself, to ensure their precious corporate continuity. It's hard to see what the plan is here. They've brought up so many quality coaches maybe they plan to just snag someone from that group who's available when the time comes. But the brain drain has had a big impact and it doesn't look like they have anyone in house who might be able to move into a bigger role in the next few years.

Coaching pipeline has dried up in part because of Pop’s uncertain future.
For a while there it looked like Pop would retire at any moment. He still might!
Why would a young upstart assistant coach, who isn’t a head coaching candidate yet, join up for that?

Isn't it like 5 of the top players from an already not strong team are injured, recovering or did not play. Geez.

during the telecast, it was mentioned that the Spurs have assistant coaches scattered all over the place but didn't mention anything else. i'm not sure if any of them are involved in the olympics, indirectly. at least they didn't call for an open audition for any AT 'coaches' to try out for the gig.
