If Kamala is the top of the ticket... mark my words... the GOP is getting 57 senate seats (OH/MT + MI/WI/PA/NV/AZ), at a minimum. No more Scranton Joe to even carry Scranton Bob Casey now. Pennsylvania is lost, unless they pick Shapiro. They might be able to save one senate seat by picking a VP name from that state (Shapiro/Whitmer/Kelly) but that's about as good as it gets.
The House is also as good as lost for any Democrats in purple to even slightly blue of purple congressional seats with Kacklemala dragging down the entire ticket. At this point, even someone like Marcy Kaptur may be toast. It's really, really bad for the Democrats.
The Democrats, to save face and save 2024 from being a red wave landslide tsunami at this point at minimum, need to follow Obama's advice and hold an open primary NOW, -and- also refrain from running too many candidates against Harris, because otherwise Harris likely wins by default. The Democrats NEED an ELECTABLE candidate to stand a chance to not only defeat Trump but perhaps more importantly hold the line in both chambers of Congress.
Whitmer... Kelly... Shapiro... pick one to be your "alternative to Kamala" nominee for top of the ticket, but not all of them. Also, Buttigieg is horribly unelectable for many reasons and people saying names like Beshear or Roy Cooper are off their rockers, nobody knows who they are outside of their home states and political junkies, and they're boring.
Trump picking a white male VP (Trump picking Rubio would have been far worse for the Democrats IMO) means that the Democrats don't have to pick a minority for either part of the ticket. They have to pick a very electable candidate, a fresh face, as so much damage has already been done.
