I don't know why more people aren't talking about this?

Poor Sonya Massey. :'( Only 36, extremely young, had a teenage son. Seems like she was killed in cold blood by a cop who chose to be a bully. She was unarmed, only with a pot of hot water that wasn't even nearly close enough to harm the officer. Officer had a history of dishonorable discharge from the Army. Seems like a really bad guy overall. They've at least charged him already with murder as this seems to be a cut and dry case. IMO it should be second degree and not first, because there's no evidence it was premeditated, but still, what a jerk!

so many red flags, one wonders if the officers who hired him didn't like what they saw.

She shoulda never moved away from that davenport. Being right and then ending up dead is never wise. We all have fond apparitions of rendering the cops wrong and stipulating to it.

Rarely happens. Get it over with ASAP and get on with the fun part of your life. There is a limited supply of those.

Would be nice, but the last 14 months has been devoid of any of that.... not by my choice.

I'll keep good thoughts & prayers out for ya, UNT.

You'd think these cops would be so jazzed to have a job like that with a guaranteed decent pension and good pay and not want to piss it away. I don't understand the thought-set with these men, but, it is there.

What do you mean by "more people"?

If a Republican were in office, you would never hear the end of it. And Springfield IL would be burned to the ground. Never let a crisis go to waste is the slogan on the left.

I saw the video a few days ago. The guy was rightfully fired and charged. That was quite the overreaction on his behalf. On top of that, he didn't turn on his bodycam until after the incident. Seems like a POS overall.

The guy is being charged for murder. This is national news. Kamala made her appearance. How much more coverage do you Trump whiners need?

You know you're right, the only reason this isn't getting the same coverage as Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin is because this time (unlike those times) a Democrat is in the White House.

Hell, I bet of there was a Republican in the White House, this incident might have even caused an entire movement over police brutality. Hashtag and all.

They never seem to care much when the victim is a female. This one will go the way of the young lady in Louisville Kentucky who was killed in the beginning of Covid

When there is video of the incident it tends to become a bigger scandal. Botham Jean was killed in his own apartment by an off duty cop who thought she was entering her own home, and outside of Dallas I don't recall it getting a lot of attention.

Contrast with Rodney King (video), Trayvon Martin (audio), Michael Brown (video) and George Floyd (video).

Didn't see that, thanks.

I don't know then. Maybe we're just numb to this like school shootings.

And the guy seemed like he was proud of it like he just killed a terrorist in Afghanistan or something.

"That's a headshot, dude!" basically celebrating the kill like a 17 year old incel playing call of duty.

“I’m fueled by rage right now,” said Massey’s cousin, Sontae Massey. “You get an officer that says he’s going to shoot you in the face, and then he shoots you in the face, and you only get second-degree? The justice system did exactly what it’s designed to do today. It’s not meant for us.”

Grayson, who is white, and another deputy arrived at Massey’s home in Springfield early on July 6, 2024, after she reported hearing someone banging on the outside of her house. He shot the 36-year-old woman (https://apnews.com/article/sonya-massey-illinois-police-shooting-911-autopsy-06e615f5d812d62de3b16b2600e9727a) after confronting her inside about how she was handling a pot of hot water on the stove.

Grayson and his attorneys argued that he fired his gun in fear that Massey would scald him with the hot water, contending at one point that Massey provoked the encounter by threatening to throw the pot at him.
