More than likely another exhibit 10 contract.
Former 5 star recruit, spent the past three seasons playing sparingly with the Clippers.

I was a fan of him a few years ago in the draft process, glad he’s getting a look.

Another Toro. MAYBE Flynn gets kept through camp and has a chance to getting a two-way (though I am skeptical). I would imagine Boston is cut to make room for the next future Toro before the pre-season really begins.

Both Flynn and Boston are getting a chance to see if they can beat our end of the bench guys. Lets see what they've got, it can't hurt. Who knows, its possible one or two of our current guys come in way out of shape or just plain suck during camp and that's when someone takes advantage of the situation. Besides, these guys are minimum salary guys at best.
Sidy and Wesley better come into camp ready to compete.

Just happy to see some camp bodies who can (theoretically) put some pressure on our end of bunch scrubs.

Pretty certain if you have more than 3 years of NBA experience you’re not eligible for a 2way contract anymore. Flynn’s going into his 4th year. Boston will likely be a see what he has and cut tho

They might be getting that chance, but that isn't indicated by these signings. Last year was a little weird because of the trades they did, but they do this every year. Even last year, they signed Gray and Millner just to waive them before camp.
The Spurs now have all 21 spots on their roster filled. In fact, they have an extra spot beyond the 21-player limit.
Paul, Jones, Wesley
Vassell, Castle, Branham
Champangie, Johnson, Cissoko
Sochan, Barnes, Mamukelashvili
Wembanyama, Collins, Bassey
TW: Duke, Bouyea, Ingram
Minix, Flynn, Boston, Mensah
I do expect Minix to make it into camp if they like him. I expect Mensah to hang around for a while to give Wemby some resh, though they could commit to Mamu backing them up there. But I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Flynn and/or Boston is going to be insta-waived to make room for other Toros. The Spurs haven't really believed in having that deep of a camp roster, and I don't believe this year would be an exception.

Brandon Boston Jr. spend three years with Clippers, played 105 games in NBA and only 14 in G-League.
Malachi Flynn played 213 games in NBA and only 2 in G-League.
Both players aren't eligible to sign a two-way contract.
There are two options:
- These players don't have a single opportunity in the NBA and Austin Spurs is the best they got.
- Spurs have told them they will have a legit shot at making the 15 players roster.
I don't know which one is the right one.
Personally, I find Wesley and Cissoko are looking less and less NBA material. I would like Spurs to bring some players to fight for their roster spot in training camp. Doing that would mean Spurs being ready to cut player(s) with a guaranteed contract.

This year, they signed and traded for players that were useful.

It's funny (and I'm not being serious) to imagine a scenario where Pop is a completely lost old man, telling Wright to go out and "Get the Finn!" and "Get Brandon Ingram!" and signing Flynn and Brandon (Boston), (Harrison) Ingram is Wright's way of placating him. You can extend this NBA Front Office sitcom to signing Zach Collins instead of John Collins.

So you're telling me the Markkanen- and Ingram-to-Spurs buzz the few bits of Wright's off-season wish list that Pop could make out with his faulty hearing aids?

When is Wesley’s next guarantee date? That will be telling right there.

Right around the beginning of the season, but that’s for season 4. This coming season is already guaranteed for Sochan, Branham, and Wesley. Those guarantees were picked up last fall.

Does Riley Minix have a chance of making the team or is he just a practice dummy?

Flynn and Boston Jr. should be in competition with Wesley and Cissoko for roster spots, but that's typically not the "Spurs way" (though they might want them to think that).
They can't waive Cissoko though because he's going to be a "special player" . . . in some bottom of the barrel league.

They won’t waive Sidy for the same reason they won’t waive Malaki or Blake. His contract is guaranteed. Not 100%, but somewhere in the 90th percentile to cover his initial buyout. I can 100% see him gone next summer with that unguaranteed year three, though.

Practice dummy. Just consider everyone who signed after we reached 15 guaranteed contracts to be one.

Sidy's salary is paltry compared to all of the dead money created last year when they waived Gallinari, Morris and Payne last year. Now granted we got a little something back, but that was a lot of dead money.

We needed that dead money to hit the floor, even if it took like 18 contracts to do so. It also brought us assets. Every player we cut had been a part of a trade that brought us something. Morris, Payne, and Birch. Gallinari was 2022 in the DJ trade. No money was wasted.

Some websites have access to the NBA contract database and reports what contracts have been officially signed:
https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/teams/San-Antonio-Spurs/26/Transaction_History/2025
Spurs exact roster situation is the following:
- 15 players with a guaranteed contract.
- 3 players with a non-guaranteed contract: Minix, Flynn and Boston.
- 3 two-way contracts: Bouyea, Duke and Ingram.
Spurs must still sign Mensah to a contract but they have already 21 players under contract which is the maximum allowed during offseason. They must waive someone before signing Mensah.
Who will be waived? My guess is Minix but we'll see.

Like I said, we got a little something back, but I'll bet we were near the top as far as dead money goes. A big contrast compared to this year - so far.

Let’s say for a hypothetical situation that the floor both last year and this year is $125M. I know it’s not, but this is hypothetical. Last year we had 18 contracts, $125M. This year we have 15 contracts $125M. The payroll is the same, and the dead money last year was under the floor figure. Without it, we don’t get our luxtax payout. That’s not the case this year. Any dead money we accrue is a waste and an overage, since we’ve already hit the floor with 15 contracts this year, instead of18.

Explanation is on point. We used the salaries to move us beyond the NBA team minimum salary requirements to get the luxury tax payments from the high spending teams. I know its part of the business but some teams aren't the brightest at handing out contracts. Uber rich billionaires, whose team is little more than an expensive hobby can pretty much throw away money.
Looked it up, the spurs got approximately 11 million in lux tax payments. The spurs are probably saving that money for Wemby's max extension a few years from now.

Dead money only matters to me if it’s over the floor/cap figure. In my example, the payroll was the same in both years. Does it matter if it’s 15 contracts or 18?
