I've had this theory for awhile now that MAGA Christians should probably convert to Islam at this point. Their brand of loyalist Trumpism and their seemingly embrace of Trump as a prophet and oneness of God, ultra populism, hardcore anti gay, gender role fundamentalist, pro-procreation, anti-abortion etc, less emphasis on Jesus and the trinity, against funding Israel and Ukraine etc. Is much more in line with Islamic fundamentals than the New Testament of Christianity. Christianity (and Judaism) are actually quite a bit more liberal historically. Aside from the Muhammad being a likely pedophile and QAnon/MAGA being vehemently against pedophilia thing. But the New Testament is all about forgiveness, love thy neighbor, forgive your enemies, forgive forgive forgive and repent, pray and save people... whereas Islam is much more distinct good and evil, punish your enemies, retribution, punish polytheists et... distinct rights and wrongs which is more in line with the MAGA movement and hardcore social and political conservatism.

agreed, it's the immigration issue more than anything...

as for social issues, Trump and most of the swing-election GOP candidates not named Mark Robinson are staying out of the culture warhawking this time around... and the state and local dems especially in the rust belt shot themselves in the foot by going too hard after abortion in 2022 and to a lesser extent 2023, instead of making it a more nationalized issue in 2024. What Michigander that voted Whitmer et al. just because Prop. 3 was on the ballot, for example, is going to be a high propensity Democratic voter in 2024? Not enough.

Also the inflation and cost of living issue, while still more the fault of Covid and the bi-partisan spending knee jerk reaction to all that than Biden/Harris themselves, definitely hurt the incumbent party, especially with the VP on the ticket.

A decent - not enormous but potentially decisive - amount of people are still upset by the 2022 post-Ukraine/pre-Dobbs gas prices and the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal and blame those on Biden/Harris, too.
