One of the great global ambassadors of the game ever. And generally spoken of as a good mentor and true gentleman.

RIP

Damn, was a huge fan since his days next to Zo at Georgetown. Dude played forever; figured he'd be around forever too. RIP Deke.

Fuck cancer indeed, didn't know he had it. Usually it's a cardiac condition at his extreme height.

Don't know if it's glioblastoma or not, but that's the one that tends to have by far the highest casualty rate, like 98%. Jimmy Carter turns 100 today and he's had stage 4 liver and lymphatic cancer since 2014, so a decade, which makes you wonder how some people have access to certain remedies that others don't, see others like RBG and Harry Reid that way outlived their prognosis expiration date. But glioblastoma is the one that we know that big medicine hasn't solved because even the Ted Kennedy's and John McCain's of the world die pretty quickly after getting it.

He was definitely one of the most likable players ever. I wanted him on the Spurs at one point. RIP legend.

I wish the NBA's humanitarian award wasn't named after Muhammed Ali because it would be fitting to re-name the award the Dikembe Mutombo Award.

RIP

I had never heard the “who want to sex Mutombo” story. And then coincidentally yesterday, I heard someone at pick-up ball and a Facebook reel of some comedian tell it.

So apparently, back in the day, Dikembe would routinely go out to the club, he’d enter and it usually would go quiet because a huge black giant was entering the club. He’d say “who want to sex Mutombo?” There’d be a female or two who’d raise their hands and go to him, and then they’d leave. Lmao. The comedian in the reel made some quip about how he was ahead of his time, because in today’s day and age of the me too movement and celebrity sex abuse allegations, he was like, “way to get that consent in front of a bunch of witnesses, Dikembe.”

I remember hearing that on Jim Rome's show like 25 years ago, but that it was something he did at bars around Georgetown when he was in college.
