A lob in a contested position? Are you talking about that first alley-oop where Paul and Wemby locked the defender in no-man's land? I made multiple posts talking about how guys like Robinson and Chandler worked with their guards to get their lobs. Like I get you're being tongue-in-cheek. But there are a lot of posters who don't understand the difference between what Victor is now and what he will be in he's actually ready to win a title. They think it's just a matter of coaching and teammates and overlook the massive personal development. The fact that Tim was already so far on that path so early is superlative just like Victor's size/skill combination.

The biggest hope this year is that Paul can help Victor internalize that he'll be his best in a more controlled and limited role where he lets his teammates do their job and trusts the offense to create opportunities. And yes, that's in dialectic with the roster improving both in terms of bringing in better talent and that talent being coached to accommodate Wemby's talent. But both horses need to pull the cart here. Yes, a guy like Paul is going to understand how to use his threat of scoring to create a lob opportunity to throw an oop to Wemby. But hopefully Paul can get Wemby to read his guards to know when to make his move rather than barreling into the paint calling for the ball constantly like he did for the first half of last season. Tonight has had some of both.

It really does feel like the beginning of last year. At some point, the switch will click for him. I'm a little disappointed that he's not showing a bunch of progress in that area straight out the gate. But I'm not freaking out because it's not even start of the season yet. oh i agree. but the lack of rim protection is more glaring and troublesome when he's out there as a 5

like, i dont care that champagnie doesnt protect the rim, because he's not playing a position that asks him to. playing mamu at the 5 is a recipe for disaster because not only does he not deter shots, hes also pretty bad at boxing out and rebounding. you can get by with him if he's playing alongside a big like Bassey/Wemby who can clean up in those departments. and he's legitimately skilled enough offensively to play the 4. its not like he's just good enough to abuse slow footed, plodding centers and relies on that disparity to generate offense.
