My guess is that it will be no sooner than Devin, who will be evaluated on 1 November. Cleared for camp doesn’t mean cleared for games. Devin’s been going 5X5 for a while, and won’t be cleared until at least the 1st.

It's like I was saying with Danny Green. ST takes Jones for granted and are too focused on his perceived shortcomings to appreciate the things he does do well. No, Jones isn't on Green's level, but he'd absolutely be able to go to competitive teams and play a key role for them.

Finding the balance among him, Paul and Castle will be one of the more interesting tasks for Pop to work on this season. Add in Wesley looking in line to get some minutes, and it only gets more interesting.

I'd roll into the season with this rotation:

Paul, Jones
Wesley, Champagnie
Castle, Johnson
Sochan, Barnes
Wembanyama, Collins

That spacing would be questionable, but I would have that starting unit as a real candidate for best defensive lineup in the league. Yes, you could bring in Barnes or Champ for Wesley, Castle or Sochan. But I'd want to do that if/when the spacing proves to be an issue rather than preemptively removing the possibility. The second unit still has a lot of talent and walks the balance of Keldon being the clear sixth man while also having other answers if required. When Vassell comes back, I think you might have to drop Collins from the rotation. Pop is experimenting with Barnes, Sochan and Mamu playing center. I get he kind of has to right now, but the best 10 guys may not include Zach.

I think you have to keep Mensah as one of the two-ways just because the team needs center depth. I just said they might choose to play small there, but they can't risk being forced to play small because of an injury. If not Mensah, some other center. I also think Ingram get the nod for the second slot. He looks fine. He's not popping out, but he hasn't given any reason to cut his development short. That leaves Duke's spot. If the Spurs are committed to picking up Wesley's and/or Branham's options, I think there's less need for deep guard depth. So Minix might be more likely to take that spot.

In terms of the 15-man roster, Cissoko and MAYBE Branham seem to be the only options. Both are two-way eligible, so they'd slide into Duke's spot if cut. Mamu is also expendable, but apparently he's playing his way to safety in Pop's eyes. I guess someone could get traded, but that never seems to be the way the Spurs get themselves out of roster situations in camp.

Walker IV bought himself a decent starter home on bis way out also. Wouldn’t put much into that. Still not convinced Tre is on his way out. He will be a cheap reliable backup if needed. If CP3 comes back and Wesley Castle develops I suspect he will find a new home come free agency.

A lot of things about future of this roster are uncertain. It's up to the players to earn their spots.

Devin/Champagnie
Jeremy/?
Barnes/?
Wemby/?

That's how I see 25-26 roster as of now.

I'm high on Castle and I think he'll force Pop to play him at PG by the end of the season.
Then it's between CP3, Tre and Wesley who gets the other PG spot. I guess Wesley could stay another season as a third stringer if he doesn't develop.
Devin is a lock and Champagnie also should be because his contract is amazing value for us. Branham should be gone.

Wing situation is interesting. Jeremy will surely be there, but we have to see if he develops. Because if he doesn't he'll surely be relegated to backup role come next season.
Keldon gets the backup spot if Spurs don't make a big move and Barnes probably stays until the end of his contract. Maybe even becomes modern day Finley if he does well and decides to spend the rest of his career with the Spurs.
Mamu is showing a lot, but it's just pre-season and we'll have to see if he can keep doign it in actual games while playing more minutes. There's also Sidy.
Collins will have one more year left and Bassey's knees are probably gone. If we're to actually get to the playoffs, we'll need to find another solid big.

Then there are two incoming FRPs.
All these guys who aren't a lock to make it are showing promise, but let's be real. We endured watching so many garbage players over the past few years that we're grasping for straws. Most of them wouldn't get any minutes on serious rosters.

All in all, I'm really looking forward to the season and I'm hoping that a couple of these guys who are on the fence will manage to get over it and become long-term bench pieces.
If we're talk starters, Jeremy is the biggest question mark. It's year 3, he either improves and becomes a good starter or ends up as everyone's favorite glue guy who doesn't actually do much basketball wise.
