Sure Whitmer/Shapiro et al have to give Kamala at least a tepid endorsement just because it'd be party suicide not to, but do you actually believe that either of them are hoping she wins?? I definitely don't. Especially Gretchen Whitmer who has for a very long time aimed to be the first female President and that definitely won't happen if Kamala wins this year, not to mention there won't be a Democratic primary in 2028 and someone like Whitmer may be forgotten in 2032 though a two-termed Shapiro would probably still be plenty relevant enough to be the Dem frontrunner in 2032... though in a Biden-Harris-Harris victory scenario it's unlikely Dems win in 2032.
