USAID’s History Of Regime Change, Destabilization, And Censorship Justifies Its Closure By Trump (https://www.public.news/p/usaids-history-of-regime-change-destabilization)

President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are undermining democracy and national security by taking over the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), say Democrats and the media. “This is a five alarm fire,” wrote Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on X. “The people elected Donald Trump to be President - not Elon Musk. Having an unelected billionaire, with his own foreign debts and motives, raiding US classified information is a grave threat to national security.” ABC News described USAID as in a state of “on-going turmoil” and in “chaos.” A senior USAID executive told ABC, “The warp-speed of this mafia-like takeover has shaken USAID staff to the core.”
Last I checked, the people didn't elect the Director of USAID either, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. Last I checked, the Director of USAID was not a position for which the President has to seek the advice and consent of the Senate, either, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez.

But there was nothing illegal, unethical, or inappropriate about DOGE’s takeover of USAID, and nobody has presented any evidence that it threatens national security. The American people elected Trump who appointed Musk to oversee DOGE, as Trump has a right to do. “With regards to the USAID stuff,” said Musk last night on X, “I went over it with (the president) in detail and he agreed that we should shut it down.” There is no evidence that Musk was illegally accessing classified information, as Ocasio-Cortez implied. Nor is there anything “mafia-like” about a new administration moving quickly to take control of the agencies it controls. Trump sought to merge USAID with the State Department in 2017.
In fact, moving slowly could have allowed the corrupt to attempt to cover their illegal activities.

Earlier this month so, not this week. But it's a recent revelation to me.

U.S. uses humanitarian assistance to hide regime change efforts in Venezuela (https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/u-s-uses-humanitarian-assistance-to-hide-regime-change-efforts-in-venezuela/)

The choreographed provocations on Venezuela’s borders this past week highlight an often overlooked component of the U.S.-orchestrated regime change machine—USAid (United States Agency for International Development).

USAID spent $18.5 billion on Islamic terrorist states in the last 5 years

Including $3.7B for the Taliban

Over $2B for 'Palestinians'

$3.4B for Yemen as part of $8B for Iranian puppet regimes

$3.3B for Somalia

Was that good or bad for our national security?

I would imagine the same shit they’ve been spending it on, Chump.

Hence, the sudden change in management in Intelligence, Treasury, Justice, and State. I don’t think there are any of the Intelligence holdovers left except at the lower levels and it appears that’s being dealt with by freezing funds, locking facilities, and escorting them out.

Precisely. His debt to society has been discharged.

Yet anyways.
I'm going to say that's wishful thinking on your part. I don't think many of his enemies are going to be in a position to try and rake him through the coals again, after his time in office. In fact, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are getting ready for their own legal battles.

Only time will tell but, I'm going to predict the attacks, (lawfare, at least) against Trump, are over. Who knows, they may try more desperate measures but, let's hope not.

I mean, if I were a betting man, I would say he will die of old age before he sees prison. So I would agree it's unlikely. Especially because our justice system doesn't work that fast, and he's an old man.

Then again, the federal cases against him were dismissed without prejudice, so as long as the statute of limitations doesn't expire, he can be on the hook.

Just coming back to this topic because in the meantime I came across this article about the investigations related to USAID (https://federal-lawyer.com/criminal-law/usaid-investigation-defense/), and it really shows how complex the whole situation is—especially when it comes to political control and classified information. I’m not saying everything claimed is 100% accurate, but there are definitely some things here that deserve serious consideration.

NED is back, funding is restored to the "CIA cutout"

Looks like regime change and meddling in the internal affairs of other countries was never off the table

Looks like the real intent here was to kill swarthy complected foreigners. The other stuff turned out to be a fig leaf.

The brief freeze and rapid partial reinstatement of National Endowment for Democracy (NED) funding in early 2025 helped expose it as a US regime-change tool. Created to rebrand CIA covert operations as “democracy promotion (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__english.almayadeen.net_articles_opinion_the-2Dnational-2Dendowment-2Dfor-2Ddemocracy-2D-2Dned&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=6Z7-0VBdKJGIyG1BZ-vWcWWfv3S9NE8mnb2rq2DEfGM&e=),” the NED channels government funds to opposition groups, meddling in their internal affairs.

In 2018, Kenneth Wollack bragged (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.counterpunch.org_2018_07_06_ned-2Dpursues-2Dregime-2Dchange-2Dby-2Dplaying-2Dthe-2Dlong-2Dgame_&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=U_u4uWmMxetDV3iLy1FFqJ9T04ZqcCGOiPVsL1sW4H4&e=)to the US Congress that the NED had given political training to 8,000 young Nicaraguans, many of whom were engaged in a failed attempt to overthrow Nicaragua’s Sandinista government. Wollack was praising the “democracy-promotion” work carried out by NED, of which he is now vice-chair. Carl Gershman, then president of the NED and giving evidence, was asked about Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega, who had been re-elected with an increased majority two years prior. He responded: “Time for him to go.”

Seven years later, Trump took office and it looked as if the NED’s future was endangered. On February 12, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Elon Musk froze disbursement of its congressionally approved funds. Its activities stopped and its website went blank. On February 24, Richard Grenell, special envoy to Venezuela, declared (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__orinocotribune.com_grenell-2Dtrump-2Dnot-2Dseeking-2Dregime-2Dchange-2Din-2Dvenezuela_&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=gtXUnJkCnqJFLa9eRgcu8LzFJaFrKQ8NQ4lmnKJBPUo&e=) that “Donald Trump is someone who does not want to make regime changes.”

Washington’s global regime-change operations were immediately impacted and over 2,000 paid US collaborating organizations temporarily defunded. A Biden-appointed judge warned of “potentially catastrophic harm (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.reuters.com_world_us_trump-2Dblocked-2Dimposing-2Dsweeping-2Dfederal-2Dfunding-2Dfreeze-2D2025-2D02-2D25_-3Futm&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=S_sG1V7pfbAuJXK6oUuCPR0KOf7oi_vIFhJQhYHU8X4&e=)” to (not in her words) US efforts to overturn foreign governments. The howl from the corporate press was deafening. The Associated Press cried (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__apnews.com_article_democracy-2Dtrump-2Dvoice-2Damerica-2Dusaid-2Dstate-2Ddepartment-2Df5959e4d3b8d21f22a8c88bfc89842b8&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=CfYoTETa1UyxagyWCbOEiNJOVS4BBa8WPLOZjtkA3C0&e=): “‘Beacon of freedom’ dims as US initiatives that promote democracy abroad wither.”

However, the pause lasted barely a month. On March 10, funding was largely reinstated. The NED, which “deeply appreciated” the State Department’s volte face, then made public its current program which, in Latin America and the Caribbean alone, includes over 260 projects (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.ned.org_wp-2Dcontent_uploads_2025_04_LAC-2DGrant-2DListing-2DFY24.pdf&d=DwMFAw&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0H vzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&m=7UDCnoWFh-uXJCWyNl6SNkepvNhF_frbeG_bnVW89gsOPj0lLiU3iGCcXa1u bpl1&s=0MLchPjshhzORIFXFAl88S29M3rLITBsFNSJXDqF2HA&e=) costing more than $40 million.
https://original.antiwar.com/roger_harris/2025/05/22/us-reinstates-funding-to-propaganda-outlet-ned/

On March 10th of this year, the NED’s website put out a statement saying (https://www.ned.org/ned-welcomes-state-departments-initial-steps-towards-restoring-funding/#:~:text=NED%20welcomes%20the%20State%20Department %E2%80%99s%20action%20to%20lift,its%20mission%20of %20advancing%20freedom%20around%20the%20world.) “NED welcomes the State Department’s action to lift restrictions and begin restoring NED’s congressionally appropriated funds and foreign assistance awards. This is a significant step toward ensuring NED can continue its mission of advancing freedom around the world.”

The NED board chairman, Peter Roskam, was quoted as saying, “We commend the State Department for this move under Secretary Rubio’s leadership. These are important steps toward fully restoring our ability to support frontline defenders of democracy in repressive regimes, including Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, China, Russia, and elsewhere.”
