wish silver could just force them out of the mavericks. or at the very least, hurry and agree to have an expansion team in vegas, and tell them they can have that team if they sell the mavericks, otherwise he will force them out of ownership. ridiculous how they can just get away with destroying a team and alienating a fanbase because they are crooked brats who are trying to get their way. at least when the sonics moved to OKC, they were still actively building a good team, unlike this garbage. its horrible for the NBA to allow this.

Adam Silver isn't going to force the hand of one of the most powerful families in this nation sadly. It's so fucking terrible for the league to have such a cheap ass owner though, another piece of shit like Sterling. The richest owners can be some of the worst. When billionaire Red McCombs owned the Spurs he almost pulled similar crap trying to dump in his prime David Robinson to the Knicks for busted knees Ewing because he didn't want to pay Robinson, also knowing Ewing would walk as soon as his contract was up. He also didn't want to pay Rod Strickland and didn't even trade him to get something useful in exchange, instead letting him walk for nothing to be replaced with cheap ass scrub Vinny Del Negro. Meanwhile Peter Holt whose net worth was about on par with the team's yearly payroll was still willing to pay to build title teams. As was the Spurs previous owner before McCombs (Angelo Drossos), who was willing to pay to let Bob Bass go and get Mike Mitchell from Cleveland and Artis Gilmore from Chicago to put next to Ice and try to get past the Lakers in the early 80s.

Mavs aren't going to look to leave unless Sands' effort to get casino gambling in Texas is thoroughly dead, and even then probably not. They don't have any properties in Las Vegas anymore so their plans aren't for there.

You don't. You move a team away from the fifth biggest market to another place in the fifth biggest market where you own the land and hopefully (from their POV) a casino resort.

Donic gives you another ten year window to ring again when the shit was chained shut as soon as you gave up good players for Westbrook four years ago and then on top of that couldn't pay Alex Caruso nor Malik Monk because of Russ. Luka didn't win his last game but he wrecked the fuck out of some very good teams in Minnesota and OKC last playoffs, plus he eviscerated that 64 win Suns team in their own building and put that team in its current tailspin. Luka's legit man, you guys ain't had anyone like him since prime Shaq.

I was brought up that-a-way thru the pains & anguish meted out by the Celtics and attendant MSM.
But, I took it, hunkered down and suffered. When I finally found my salvation in June 9, 1985 I went on a 40 year grailed quest to mete out vengeance that only the ring means not only anything, amb, but everything. And 2nd place is last place...nary a dime's worth of difference.
And wherever I perch Board wise that's the way it is.

It's a good sign that Luka's already mean mugging the crowd and dropping it low/hittin the stanky leg after his step back threes. Shows he's feeling at home now, when I was a little bit concerned of him being star struck playing with Bron.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when the spotlight is on him and he actually has expectations to make a deep run in the playoffs. So far, it's been low pressure postseason upsets against inexperienced teams and choke artists until their sh1tty roster is inevitably overwhelmed by a veteran, experienced team. I still think he'll be fine though. Despite the retarded smear campaign, anybody who watched the Finals last year against Boston know that Kyrie and multiple role players sh!t the bed every game in Boston which was way too much to overcome

yes they definitely signed off. but still not sure if he's just a fall guy. no one on earth could have looked at this situation and not seen this kind of fallout happening. if nico truly wasnt on board and was just a fall guy, why wouldn't he just resign? sure they would pay him well, but he had to know that this was going to ruin his career irreversibly and completely destroy his credibility. if he was solely interested in making a payday and never working again or showing his face in public for the next 10+ years, then yeah it makes sense. but i dont think thats the case.
i think he truly believed this was a good move and is willing to weather the storm to prove he was right, and ownership is just backing him up. because they know that either A) it somehow works and they win championships, or B) it backfires, but gives them what they idiotically perceive as leverage to move the mavs wherever they want, whether gambling is legalized and they take the team to irving or someplace where they can build their dream complex, or a move to las vegas if gambling isnt legalized
either way, its a horrifying situation. but still not as bad as a team thinking amen thompson is their savior.

Big game from AD. Maybe they were right all along? I just think they’re one guard away, who can be both a facilitator and number one option, from winning a title tbh imho Hopkins no gloves, Riley no parakeet, pussy no face, et-cetera no cetera etc

You did good, Mark; your winning helps keep the Suns at bay.

I got a bad feeling the Mavs are gonna lose this game tonight which would make Friday's game an imperative victory taking into account the Suns win tonight which would not surprise me whatsoever.

What in the hell are you talking about? Phoenix is on an 8 game losing streak and officially in the lottery (and giving Houston their pick :lmao)

I enjoy obsessing & ruminating about them until they're actually out. That happened last night. My nightmare is over. over-over.
I kept obsessing because if they would have gotten in the playoffs Durant, Booker and Beal would have had a clean slate from which to start from. I didn't trust it...but the Suns owner Ishbia did relish the prospect..."I wouldn't want to play the Suns if we get in." said after they were slaughtered game before last night.
Sure, I'm paranoid about the Suns, bum, I've never denied such. It's just my pathology. It took firm root when I arrived here Xmas of '86 and has never left me one iota.

I don't understand Cuban giving away control of the Mavs like this. I thought he'd die first.

Firings, 'cheerleader energy' and lost trust: What really led to the Luka Doncic trade
...
What happened next began a series of behind-the-scenes decisions that have had massive ramifications for the Mavs during this shocking, drastically disappointing, injury-riddled season in Dallas. Interviews with more than a dozen team and league insiders reveal that while the Luka Doncic era officially ended on Feb. 2, it truly began to disintegrate, along with the franchise's culture, 18 months earlier, the summer before the generational talent led the Mavs to the NBA Finals.
A few days after returning to Dallas' Love Field from the Hall of Fame event, when the franchise that had endured a frustrating, losing season was on a high from honoring Nowitzki, Harrison informed Smith that they needed to meet. Smith replied that it wasn't possible to meet in person; he had gone to his hometown in Ohio to be at the side of his gravely ill mother in the final weeks of her life. Harrison set up a video conference meeting instead.
Smith was then informed that his services in Dallas were no longer needed, ending a nearly two-decade tenure with the franchise. The reason for the dismissal centered on Smith being "too negative," according to sources briefed on the discussion who interpreted the vague reasoning to mean Smith wasn't enough of a yes-man.
"He was 100 percent threatened by him," a team source told ESPN, referring to Harrison's concern that Smith's voice carried too much weight with the franchise. "He's going to show that I'm in charge and nobody else can question that."

Inside Nico Harrison’s Takeover of the Dallas Mavericks and the Luka Dončić Trade
...
When the Mavericks traded Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 1, it sent shockwaves throughout the NBA. But internally, the decision had been building. According to sources, the story communicated to the outside world tends to involve a belief within the Mavericks’ basketball operations that the franchise had already peaked with Dončić, citing the 2022 Western Conference Finals and 2024 NBA Finals as the furthest they would go with him as the centerpiece. While many would find that to be an indefensible position, that is how Harrison sees it.
Publicly, Harrison framed the decision as a philosophical shift, often describing it as “defense wins championships.” Sources indicated to DallasHoopsJournal.com that the front office’s story was to find a new path: build a dominant defense around Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II, while getting “enough” offense from Kyrie Irving. But privately, sources say the original reasoning had little to do with the scheme or defense.
Dončić’s handling of his left calf injury, which he suffered on Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves, was the first attempt he’s taken at fully recovering from an injury. However, this became a bizarre rallying cry and an opportunity for the Mavericks’ perceived justification to intensify the trade, but there’s even more to consider. Dončić’s team believed a more extended recovery timetable was necessary, and there was a sentiment that he returned too soon from his heel contusion that caused him to miss two games after a 45-point triple-double he produced while leading a 143-133 road victory against the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 15.
Some of the intel from the Harrison-led basketball operations department featured a belief from the Mavericks’ medical team that Dončić should have returned from the calf strain within three weeks, clearly marking a disagreement on the severity of the injury. Sources long indicated that Dončić long targeted a return on Feb. 8 against the Houston Rockets, as DallasHoopsJournal.com previously reported. Dončić’s return to competition was slightly delayed due to being traded, but he made his Lakers debut on Feb. 10 against the Utah Jazz.
