A Venmo account under the name “Michael Waltz,” carrying a profile photo of the national security adviser (https://www.wired.com/story/trump-officials-signal-chat-candlelight-dinner-mar-a-lago-yemen/) and connected to accounts bearing the names of people closely associated with him, was left open to the public (https://www.wired.com/story/jd-vance-venmo/) until Wednesday afternoon. A WIRED analysis shows that the account revealed the names of hundreds of Waltz’s personal and professional associates, including journalists, military officers, lobbyists, and others—information a foreign intelligence service or other actors could exploit for any number of ends, experts say.https://www.wired.com/story/michael-waltz-left-his-venmo-public/

Private Data and Passwords of Senior U.S. Security Officials Found Online

Private contact details of the most important security advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump can be found on the internet. DER SPIEGEL reporters were able to find mobile phone numbers, email addresses and even some passwords belonging to the top officials.

To do so, the reporters used commercial people search engines along with hacked customer data that has been published on the web. Those affected by the leaks include National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Most of these numbers and email addresses are apparently still in use, with some of them linked to profiles on social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. They were used to create Dropbox accounts and profiles in apps that track running data. There are also WhatsApp profiles for the respective phone numbers and even Signal accounts in some cases.

It was particularly easy for DER SPIEGEL reporters to discover Hegseth’s mobile number and email address. They turned to a commercial provider of contact information that is primarily used by companies for sales, marketing and recruitment.

DER SPIEGEL sent the provider a link to Hegseth’s LinkedIn profile and received a Gmail address and a mobile phone number in return, in addition to other information. A search of leaked user data revealed that the email address and, in some cases, even the password associated with it, could be found in over 20 publicly accessible leaks. Using publicly available information, it was possible to verify that the email address was used just a few days ago.

The mobile number provided, meanwhile, led to a WhatsApp account that Hegseth apparently only recently deleted. The profile photo showed a shirtless Hegseth in a baseball cap and necklace. Comparisons with other photos of the U.S. secretary of defense using facial recognition software were able to confirm that the photo on the WhatsApp profile was indeed Hegseth.https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/pete-hegseth-mike-waltz-tulsi-gabbard-private-data-and-passwords-of-senior-u-s-security-officials-found-online-a-14221f90-e5c2-48e5-bc63-10b705521fb7

Waltz’s mobile number and email address could be found using the same service provider. The mobile phone number could even be found using a people search engine popular in the U.S. DER SPIEGEL reporters were also able to find several passwords for Waltz’s email address in leaked databases. The information also led to Waltz’s profiles for Microsoft Teams, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Signal.

National Intelligence Director Gabbard was seemingly more careful with her data than her two male colleagues. She apparently had her own data blocked in the commercial contact search engines that contained the data of Hegseth and Waltz. But her email address was to be found on WikiLeaks and Reddit.

Gabbard’s email address is available in more than 10 leaks. One of those also contains a partial telephone number, which, when completed, leads to an active WhatsApp account and a Signal profile.

these people aren't taking their jobs seriously

Personal inquiries sent by DER SPIEGEL to the leaked WhatsApp and Signal accounts belonging to Waltz were delivered, according to the confirmation function. His WhatsApp profile photo showed Waltz with two other people in front of a U.S. flag. Shortly after the inquiries were sent, Waltz’s accounts were apparently deactivated; the WhatsApp chat with DER SPIEGEL disappeared.

The office of the national intelligence director stated that Tulsi Gabbard’s private data was leaked almost 10 years ago, that she hadn’t used the relevant platforms for several years and that she had changed her passwords several times.

DER SPIEGEL reporting, however, found that the private Google account belonging to Gabbard was used as recently as around two weeks ago. Messages sent by DER SPIEGEL to her leaked WhatsApp and Signal accounts were also apparently delivered. Two check marks appeared after they were sent.

there are different punishments for the big fish and the minnows

it's pretty much a one for one analogy here

A federal worker accidentally includes a journalist on a detailed message in advance of a government operation.

While that sounds like the case of The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief being added to a group Signal chat by Trump’s national security adviser Michael Waltz, in which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared detailed military attack plans (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/atlantic-publishes-full-signal-chat-messages-showing-military-plans-us-rcna198148) in Yemen, it’s not.

It’s what happened to a longtime Department of Homeland Security employee who told colleagues she inadvertently sent unclassified details of an upcoming Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation to a journalist in late January, according to former ICE chief of staff Jason Houser, one former DHS official and one current DHS official. (The two officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they do not want to endanger their current or future career opportunities.)

But unlike Waltz and Hegseth, who both remain in their jobs, the career DHS employee was put on administrative leave and told late last week that the agency intends to revoke her security clearance, the officials said.

some think Hegseth and Waltz tipped intelligence methods to the Houthis

and might impair intelligence sharing with allies

In one of the messages, Ratcliffe told other Cabinet members who were discussing whether to delay the strikes that the CIA was in the act of mobilizing assets to collect intelligence on the group, but that a delay might offer them the opportunity to “identify better starting points for coverage on Houthi leadership.”

That text, according to the current and former officials, exposed the mere fact that the US is gathering intelligence on them — bad in and of itself — but also hinted at how the agency is doing it. The language about “starting points,” these people said, suggests clearly that the CIA is using technical means like overhead surveillance to spy on their leadership. That could allow the Houthis to change their practices to better protect themselves.

Then, in a later message, Waltz offered an extremely specific after-action report of the strikes, telling the thread that the military had “positive ID” of a particular senior Houthi leader “walking into his girlfriend’s building” — offering the Houthis a clear opportunity to see who the US was surveilling and potentially figure out how, thus enabling them to avoid that surveillance in the future, the sources said.

The Houthis have “always been difficult to track,” said a former intelligence official. “Now you just highlight for them that they’re in the crosshairs.”

"merit"

But it is not common for those senior-level positions to be filled by family members of the Cabinet heads, said Michael Fallings, a managing partner at Tully Rinckey PLLC, which specializes in federal employment law.

Based on Phil Hegseth’s publicly available resume, his past experience includes founding his own podcast production company, Embassy and Third, and working on social media and podcasts at The Hudson Institute (https://www.hudson.org/experts/1269-philip-hegseth).

It’s not the first time Phil Hegseth has worked alongside his older brother. When Pete Hegseth (https://www.militarytimes.com/veterans/2016/01/20/conservative-backed-veterans-group-restructures-after-leader-quits/) was CEO of Concerned Veterans for America, a nonprofit that fell into financial difficulty during his time there, he paid his brother $108,000 to do media relations for the organization, according to federal tax records.

Hegseth isn't taking his job very seriously

The sources are "multiple people present or with knowledge" -- Hegseth is losing the locker room

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday (https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/hegseth-brought-his-wife-to-sensitive-meetings-with-foreign-military-officials-c16db0ea?mod=hp_lead_pos1) that Hegseth brought his wife Jennifer Hegseth to two meetings with foreign military officials, citing multiple people present or with knowledge of the meetings.

One meeting was reportedly held with U.K.'s Secretary of Defense John Healey in the Pentagon (https://www.newsweek.com/topic/pentagon) on March 6 and discussions included the United States' decision to withdraw from sharing military intelligence (https://www.newsweek.com/russia-ukraine-2039872) with Ukraine amid their war with Russia, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Defense officials told the Wall Street Journal that attendance lists for secretary meetings usually involve people with security clearances due to "the delicate nature of the discussions."

The second meeting was reportedly at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO (https://www.newsweek.com/topic/nato)) headquarters in Brussels, Belgium in February. The meeting was a gathering of officials from other nations to discuss support for Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal says.

Citing people familiar with the meetings, "Some foreign attendees at the meetings didn't know who Jennifer Hegseth was," the Wall Street Journal added.

As William Murray, another former top CIA officer, told (https://www.spytalk.co/p/signalgate-did-cia-boss-ratcliffe) SpyTalk this week, the use of cell phones have long been barred inside CIA headquarters at Langley, prompting him to question why Ratcliffe, the agency’s director, would have been using his for the Signals chat apparently from his seventh floor office. https://www.spytalk.co/p/cia-ops-veteran-calls-signal-scandal

If Waltz inadvertently added Goldberg to the Signal chat he should be canned. Aside from that the US pulled off one of the largest and most successful bombing campaigns in Yemen in years in an effort the keep shipping lanes open and safe in the Red Sea.

and that's one more reason you don't use Signal to discuss war plans

According to the White House, the number was erroneously saved during a “contact suggestion update” by Waltz’s iPhone, which one person described as the function where an iPhone algorithm adds a previously unknown number to an existing contact that it detects may be related.

The mistake went unnoticed until last month when Waltz sought to add Hughes to the Signal group chat – but ended up adding Goldberg’s number to the 13 March message chain named “Houthi PC small group”, where several top US officials discussed plans for strikes against the Houthis.

Waltz said in the immediate aftermath of the incident that he had never met or communicated with Goldberg. He also suggested on Fox News that Goldberg’s number had been “sucked” into his phone, seemingly in reference to how his iPhone had saved Goldberg’s number.

bad hires, weak leadership

Politico reported Friday (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/18/defense-secretary-chief-of-staff-joe-kasper-departure-00299508) that three senior Pentagon officials have now been fired as part of the leak investigation: Hegseth senior advisor Dan Caldwell, deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll — who was Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg's chief of staff — have all been officially terminated. And Joe Kasper, who was Hegseth's own chief of staff, is now leaving the Pentagon for a separate job in the Pentagon.

With these staffing changes, the top United States military official is now without a chief of staff, a deputy chief of staff and a senior advisor, less than 100 days into his tenure. An unnamed "senior defense official" suggested to Politico that Hegseth made poor choices for who to trust in his inner circle, with another source saying there would likely be more "chaos" to follow in the coming days.

“There is a complete meltdown in the building, and this is really reflecting on the secretary’s leadership,” the source said. “Pete Hegseth has surrounded himself with some people who don’t have his interests at heart.”

Additional firings may be announced soon. According to CBS senior White House (https://www.rawstory.com/tag/white-house) reporter Jennifer Jacobs, "at least one uniformed Pentagon official (https://x.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1913359802358485102)" was also fired in addition to Hegseth's top aides.

According to "three US officials with direct knowledge of the exchanges"

Hegseth is cooked, Leavitt's defense of him yesterday was basically that the whole building hates him

Minutes before U.S. fighter jets took off to begin strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen last month, Army Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, who leads U.S. Central Command, used a secure U.S. government system to send detailed information about the operation to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The material Kurilla sent included details about when U.S. fighters would take off and when they would hit their targets — details that could, if they fell into the wrong hands, put the pilots of those fighters in grave danger. But he was doing exactly what he was supposed to: providing Hegseth, his superior, with information he needed to know and using a system specifically designed to safely transmit sensitive and classified information.

But then Hegseth used his personal phone to send some of the same information Kurilla had given him to at least two group text chats on the Signal messaging app, three U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the exchanges told NBC News.

Trump Orders Troops To Middle East To Counter Houthi Attacks

...
“Consistent with my commitment to defend United States forces and to uphold navigational rights and freedoms,” Trump wrote, he directed the Department of Defense to “move additional forces equipped for combat into the Middle East to enhance the defensive capabilities available to United States forces and facilitate necessary military actions. These forces include capabilities for air and missile defense of Israel and of locations hosting United States forces as well as fighter, support, and reconnaissance aircraft to enable strikes on Houthi targets.”
...
In addition to their attacks on American-owned ships, the Houthis have shot down a number of Reaper drones with surface-to-air missiles, some Russian-made. “The strikes against MQ-9 Reaper drones impair US intelligence and targeting systems and help the Houthis shore up domestic and regional support. And, with the Houthis’ ties to China, Russia, and Iran, downed MQ-9 Reaper drones could end up in the hands of U.S. adversaries,” the Atlantic Council noted. “Tactically, the Houthi shootdowns of MQ-9 drones primarily aim to blind the US intelligence and targeting systems. … Russia has significantly deepened political engagements with the Houthis … Beijing seems to have intensified engagement with the Houthis since mid-November 2023.”

Houthi rebels shoot down 7 US military Reaper drones worth $334m, in recent weeks

Houthi rebels in Yemen have shot down seven US Reaper drones in less than six weeks, a loss of aircraft worth more than US$200 million (NZ$334m) in what is becoming the most dramatic cost to the Pentagon of the military campaign against the Iran-backed militants.

According to defence officials, three of the drones were shot down in the past week — suggesting the militants' targeting of the unmanned aircraft flying over Yemen has improved. The drones were doing attack runs or conducting surveillance, and they crashed both into the water and onto land, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.

The US has increased its attacks on the Houthis, launching daily strikes since March 15, when President Donald Trump ordered a new, expanded campaign. He promised to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the Houthis cease their attacks on shipping along a vital maritime corridor. The US has done more than 750 strikes on the Houthis since that new effort began.

Joe Kasper was originally expected to transition (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/18/defense-secretary-chief-of-staff-joe-kasper-departure-00299508) to another role within the Defense Department, but is now planning to go back to government relations and consulting, he said in an interview.

He will continue to support and advise the Pentagon, he said, but as a special government employee. This will limit him to performing temporary jobs for just 130 days a year.

A former longtime chief of staff to indicted Rep. Duncan Hunter, Kasper was a leading figure (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/22/pentagon-infighting-hegseth-fired-officials-00302709) in the firings of senior adviser Dan Caldwell, Hegseth deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll, the chief of staff to Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg. The trio were ousted last week in a leak investigation.

Some officials saw the wave of firings as a bid by Kasper to consolidate power.

“Kasper did not like that those guys had the secretary’s ear,” a person familiar with the dynamic said. “He did not like that they had walk-in and hanging-out privileges in the office. I hadn't heard about any call for assistance from the Brits. Not sure why hater holds that against the carrier commander, or that that would be some kind of problem if the ship really had been fired upon so closely as to need to undertake evasive measures.

Indeed, sources I read suggested evasive maneuvering had something to do with the mishap.

A hard turn by an aircraft carrier isn’t enough on its own to cause a $67 million Navy fighter jet to slide off a ship, a Defense Department official said as investigators determine how a plane fell into the Red Sea on Monday.

“Evasive maneuvers against anti-ship missiles (ASM) are not a standard procedure and would not generally be relevant or effective given the great difference in speed between ASMs and ships,” said Jan van Tol, a retired Navy captain and senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments in Washington.

An aircraft carrier would rely on escorting ships, its own fighters against some threats and/or its own passive defensive measures to provide its best defense, van Tol said in an email.

Photos Show Mike Waltz Using Signal in Trump Cabinet Meeting

...

In a Wednesday photo captured by Reuters photographer Evelyn Hockstein, Waltz was seen looking down at his phone while holding it under the table.

The photo shows multiple Signal text messages, including one with a user named JD Vance. Vance is the vice president.

One partially concealed text also appears to show Waltz talking to a user with the name "Gabbard." Tulsi Gabbard is the Director of National Intelligence. A third message shows Waltz communicating with someone with the last name Rubio. Marco Rubio is the secretary of state and will serve as interim national security adviser until Trump taps a permanent replacement.

The photo, taken during Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, comes after the president recently warned his staff about continuing to use Signal following the "Signalgate" controversy, referring to the fallout from journalist Jeffrey Goldberg publishing details of the group chat Waltz included him in by mistake.

Wednesday's photo from Reuters started circulating on social media on Thursday, when reports first surfaced that Trump was ousting Waltz and Wong.

A hacker has breached and stolen customer data from TeleMessage, an obscure Israeli (https://www.404media.co/behind-the-blog-the-news-hits-different/) company that sells modified versions of Signal and other messaging apps to the U.S. government to archive messages, 404 Media has learned. The data stolen by the hacker contains the contents of some direct messages and group chats sent using its Signal clone, as well as modified versions of WhatsApp, Telegram, and WeChat. TeleMessage was recently the center of a wave of media coverage after Mike Waltz accidentally revealed he used the tool in a cabinet meeting with President Trump.

The hack shows that an app gathering messages of the highest ranking officials in the government—Waltz’s chats on the app include recipients that appear to be Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard, and JD Vance—contained serious vulnerabilities that allowed a hacker to trivially access the archived chats of some people who used the same tool. The hacker has not obtained the messages of cabinet members, Waltz, and people he spoke to, but the hack shows that the archived chat logs are not end-to-end encrypted between the modified version of the messaging app and the ultimate archive destination controlled by the TeleMessage customer.

Data related to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the cryptocurrency giant Coinbase, and other financial institutions are included in the hacked material, according to screenshots of messages and backend systems obtained by 404 Media.

“I would say the whole process took about 15-20 minutes,” the hacker said, describing how they broke into TeleMessage’s systems. “It wasn’t much effort at all.” 404 Media does not know the identity of the hacker, but has verified aspects of the material they have anonymously provided.https://www.404media.co/the-signal-clone-the-trump-admin-uses-was-hacked/

Hegseth went rogue

Can't stress how dangerous it is to have the Defense Secretary acting all on his own

Trumplandia is in disarray

Roughly a week after Donald Trump started his second term as president, the U.S. military issued an order (https://www.reuters.com/world/us-arms-shipments-kyiv-briefly-paused-before-resuming-over-weekend-sources-say-2025-02-03/) to three freight airlines operating out of Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and a U.S. base in Qatar: Stop 11 flights loaded with artillery shells and other weaponry and bound for Ukraine.

In a matter of hours, frantic questions reached Washington from Ukrainians in Kyiv and from officials in Poland, where the shipments were coordinated. Who had ordered the U.S. Transportation Command, known as TRANSCOM, to halt the flights? Was it a permanent pause on all aid? Or just some?

Top national security officials — in the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department — couldn’t provide answers. Within one week, flights were back in the air.
The verbal order originated from the office of Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, according to TRANSCOM records reviewed by Reuters.

The cancelations came after Trump wrapped up a January 30 Oval Office meeting about Ukraine that included Hegseth and other top national security officials, according to three sources familiar with the situation. During the meeting, the idea of stopping Ukraine aid came up, said two people with knowledge of the meeting, but the president issued no instruction to stop aid to Ukraine.

The president was unaware of Hegseth’s order, as were other top national security officials in the meeting, according to two sources briefed on the private White House discussions and another with direct knowledge of the matter.

Asked to comment on this report, the White House told Reuters that Hegseth had followed a directive from Trump to pause aid to Ukraine, which it said was the administration's position at the time. It did not explain why, according to those who spoke to Reuters, top national security officials in the normal decision making process didn’t know about the order or why it was so swiftly reversed.
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/order-by-hegseth-cancel-ukraine-weapons-caught-white-house-off-guard-2025-05-06/

Winehole23
05-06-2025, 08:49 AM
The cancelations cost TRANSCOM $2.2 million, according to the records reviewed by Reuters. In response to a request for comment, TRANSCOM said that the total cost was $1.6 million – 11 flights were canceled but one incurred no charge.

An order halting military aid authorized under the Biden administration went into effect officially a month later, on March 4, with a White House announcement.

The story of how flights were canceled, detailed by Reuters for the first time, points to an at-times haphazard policy-making process within the Trump administration and a command structure that is unclear even to its own ranking members.

The multiday pause of the flights, confirmed by five people with knowledge of it, also shows confusion in how the administration has created and implemented national security policy. At the Pentagon, the disarray is an open secret, with many current and former officials saying the department is plagued by internal disagreements on foreign policy, deep-seated grudges, and inexperienced staff.

WH doesn't trust Hegseth to pick his own chief of staff

Exasperated by the turmoil that has dogged Pete Hegseth (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/pete-hegseth)’s office in recent weeks, the White House will block the US defense secretary’s choice of chief of staff and select a candidate of its own, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Hegseth had suggested giving the chief of staff position to Marine Col Ricky Buria after the first person in the role, Joe Kasper, left last month in the wake of a contentious leak investigation (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/26/pete-hegseth-leak-investigation) that brought the ouster of three other senior aides.

But the White House has made clear to Hegseth that Buria will not be elevated to become his most senior aide at the Pentagon, the people said, casting Buria as a liability on account of his limited experience as a junior military assistant and his recurring role in internal office dramam

“Ricky will not be getting the chief position,” one of the people directly familiar with deliberations said. “He doesn’t have adequate experience, lacks the political chops and is widely disliked by almost everyone in the White House who has been exposed to him.”https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/09/white-house-pentagon-hegseth-chief-of-staff

On April 28, the Truman was forced to make a hard turn at sea to avoid incoming Houthi fire, several U.S. officials said. The move contributed to the loss of one of the Super Hornets, which was being towed at the time and fell overboard. That same day, dozens of people were killed in a U.S. attack that hit a migrant facility controlled by the Houthis, according to the group and aid officials.

Then on May 4, a Houthi ballistic missile evaded Israel’s aerial defenses (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/06/world/middleeast/israel-yemen-attack-sana-airport.html) and struck near Ben-Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv.

On Tuesday, two pilots aboard another Super Hornet, again on the Truman, were forced to eject after their fighter jet failed to catch the steel cable on the carrier deck, sending the plane into the Red Sea.

By then, Mr. Trump had decided to declare the operation a success.

Houthi officials and their supporters swiftly declared victory, too, spreading a social media hashtag that read “Yemen defeats America.”

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

The White House's Red Sea strike campaign was designed to last 8-10 months, according (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/12/us/politics/trump-houthis-bombing.html) to the Times; it was called off with a truce after less than two, even though the Houthis continued to launch attacks on Israel. The reasons for the shortened campaign went beyond missile inventories.

The Houthis turned out to be difficult to combat. During the operation, Houthi attacks forced the carrier USS Harry S. Truman to take sudden evasive action at least once, resulting in the loss of an F/A-18 fighter over the side. In action over Yemen, high-tech U.S. forces never established full command of the airspace: The Houthis' rudimentary air defense systems (https://www.twz.com/air/how-the-houthis-rickety-air-defenses-can-threaten-the-stealthy-f-35) took down about half a dozen MQ-9 Reaper drones, nearly hit several F-16 fighters, and forced one advanced F-35 stealth strike fighter to make evasive maneuvers. And even after weeks of U.S. airstrikes, the group retained some residual ability to carry out long-range ballistic missile attacks.

"They [the Houthis] took tremendous punishment. And, you know, you could say there's a lot of bravery there, that it was amazing what they took," said President Donald Trump, discussing the ceasefire last week.

Recent evidence suggests that the group is rearming and rebuilding, and it continues to launch ballistic missiles at targets in Israel, including three attempted attacks reported earlier this week. Even attacks on shipping still appear to be on the table: In a statement Thursday, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said that until Israel ends its operation in Gaza, the group will keep up a "maritime navigation ban in the Red and Arabian Seas."

facts keep dribbling out

A hacker who breached the communications service used by former Trump (https://www.yahoo.com/people/donald-trump/) national security adviser Mike Waltz earlier this month intercepted messages from a broader swathe of American officials than has previously been reported, according to a Reuters review, potentially raising the stakes of a breach that has already drawn questions about data security in the Trump administration.

Reuters identified more than 60 unique government users of the messaging platform TeleMessage in a cache of leaked data provided by Distributed Denial of Secrets, a U.S. nonprofit whose stated mission is to archive hacked and leaked documents in the public interest. The trove included material from disaster responders, customs officials, several U.S. diplomatic staffers, at least one White House staffer and members of the Secret Service. The messages reviewed by Reuters covered a roughly day-long period of time ending on May 4, and many of them were fragmentary.

DDoSecrets publishes 410 GB of heap dumps, hacked from TeleMessage's archive server

...
There's a lot of background, so here's a quick timeline of events with relevant links:

March: Then-national security advisor Mike Waltz invited a journalist into a Signal group where they planned war crimes. This led to Congressional hearings about Trump officials using Signal groups to discuss classified information.
May 1: Waltz (the day he was demoted from position of national security advisor) was photographed using TM SGNL, a modified version of Signal made by TeleMessage. He had texts up with Tusli Gabbard, JD Vance, and Marco Rubio.
May 3: I published the source code of the TM SGNL to GitHub.
May 4: TeleMessage got hacked, which I reported in 404 Media with Joseph Cox.
May 5: TeleMessage got hacked again by someone else, as NBC News reported.
May 6: I published analysis of the TM SGNL source code, along with some of the hacked data, that prove the TeleMessage lied about its products supporting end-to-end encryption.
May 18: I published details about the TeleMessage server's vulnerability in WIRED. TLDR: if anyone on the internet loaded the URL archive.telemessage.com/management/heapdump, they would download a Java heap dump from TeleMessage's archive server, containing plaintext chat logs, among other things.

Now, DDoSecrets has published 410 GB of these TeleMessage heap dumps. Here's the DDoSecrets description of the release:

Pentagon investigating whether Hegseth tried to cover up

This is the second Pentagon investigation on this, I think

The Defense Department Inspector General is now investigating whether Pete Hegseth attempted to cover up his use of Signal (https://www.rawstory.com/search/?q=signalgate) to share sensitive military information.

The Army Times reported (https://www.armytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2025/06/06/watchdog-probes-if-aides-were-asked-to-delete-hegseths-signal-chats/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=tw_at) on Friday that two people familiar with the investigation (https://www.rawstory.com/st/raw_story_investigates) by the Pentagon watchdog revealed details to the Associated Press about the matter.

If Republicans policed their own side better, people would trust them a little more

as it is they look like a bunch of slick, nihilist gangsters

BABYSITTERS WANTED

The White House is looking for a new chief of staff and several senior advisers to support Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after a series of missteps that have shaken confidence in his leadership, but it has so far found no suitable takers, according to four current and former administration officials and a Republican congressional aide.

Top Defense Department jobs, including the defense secretary’s chief of staff, are normally considered prestigious and typically attract multiple qualified candidates. But at least three people have already turned down potential roles under Hegseth, according to a former U.S. official, the defense official and a person familiar with the matter.
