Curry and Bassey(!) are probable, the rest of the injury report is as expected.

Let's break the record for the lowest number of posts in a game thread!

Everyone took it seriously?

Ugly start, even CP3 is half-assing it and turning it over.
I'm not sure this one is going to be a competitive loss.

I'm trying to see a future as anything other than an energy guy off the bench for him, but I just can't.

Nice dunk by Castle.

Same.

The only thing good thing I can say about him is he tries hard...which can be disruptive. But it's disruptive on both offense and defense.

Otherwise, he can't catch, can't finish, can't shoot, and can't pass (despite the PG Sochan experience). He actually makes things worse because he constantly gets the ball in a good spot and either puts up a terrible shot, or dribbles the ball out to reset.

Time to move on.

Time to move on.

If there are no interested teams that would give us back solid value, just don't extend him this summer and let him try to earn his extension next season.
In his current state, I wouldn't offer anything more than $10M a year.

The Spurs honestly could use some ass-beatings like this to hammer home that Mitch isn't the answer at coach.

Say what you will about Pop, but he at least had a way of getting under-manned teams from being competitive. This is just embarrassing.

Which Pop? Idk if it's recency bias, but games like this are the reason why most of us want Pop to retire.
We had a solid stretch except for that Detroit game, Warriors had two days of rest and it's a b2b for us.

Yeah, it's a horrible game, but imo not a reason why Mitch should go. He should go because he's not good enough in general.

I'm probably thinking of prime Pop, like the one who almost beat the prime Heat while resting our starting lineup.

Or the one who managed to get the Spurs to the playoffs with our MVP Kawhi (at the time) being a little bitch, or with LaMarcus and DeMar as your big two.

But yeah, that Pop is gone now, and probably isn't coming back. I just hope the Spurs don't consider Johnson their future when you have Wemby and Fox (and Castle) as our future.

Anyway. This Pistons/Wolves game has been great. Pistons really are putting together a pretty good team.

Castle clearly started the game in distribute mode with some solid passes to Vassell and Barnes for wide open 3s. I counted 5 such shots in the first 5 mins. All clanked. The Spurs were dribbling and shooting like the ball was covered in bacon grease.

A new coach is not fixing the Spurs. It’s a talent issue. Once Pop is better he should be forced to coach this team. Pop vouched for and continues to advocate for a lot of these guys. If we got to watch this shit - he should have to coach it.

Great to see TD there, but darn, they didn't show up for him. A bit OT, but I also didn't think TD & Vanessa were married?

As for the game, yeah, not much to say. Castle's not looking too good lately. If he wants rookie of the year, he needs to finish the season as strong as possible. I could see a guy like Risacher on a team with something to play for get it if the Hawks finish strong with him also playing well.

Castle had a good game the other night against the Celtics. This was 1 bad game where you just throw it out of the window. Statistically he's having a better season than Risacher. He will get the Rookie of the year.

That guys is long gone. You should think about the Pop who set the franchise record for most consecutive losses last year. He is also the same pop who hasn't had a winning record in 5 years and counting.

That said, the Spurs probably could have done a better job with putting in a succession plan. Mitch Johnson ain't it, but I don't think anyone expected him to be it either...just like they didn't expect Pop to go down early in the season.

Bring back Becky or Bud or let Brett take over...anything is better than this.

I get what you're saying, but I think the difference is, the Hawks are winning games and he's contributing to it. Risacher just had 36 points (I don't think/remember Steph even scoring this much in a game all season?) in a Hawks win last night. Maybe how players finish the season will stick with the voters. Seeing the Spurs get spanking with Steph playing poorly isn't going to leave a good impression, and we're also playing some decent teams the rest of the way.

I think he’s got ROY covered but Risacher will be second and not far behind.

I actually saw Castle score his career high in person when he played the Hornets which was 33 points. That's close to Risacher scoring 36. Voters are not going to care about 1 bad game Castle had when he's put up a string of better games than Risacher. Castle sticks out more from what he did from start to finish this year. He's been more consistent. Sure, Risacher's team may go to the playoffs, but their record is not that much better than the Spurs. Also, Risacher is clearly not the best player on his team which is why I don't think these voters are going to factor in winning that much. I'm pretty confident Castle will put up good number regardless of who the Spurs play in the upcoming schedule.

Truly disgusting effort in the presence of our legends. A group of players and pseudo coaches so intent on destroying the last vestiges of pride and honor in this once great franchise. RC Buford better overhaul this losing culture over the summer. Too much losing has permeated the structure of the team. Too many individuals on the roster and the coaching staff have known nothing but losing. If the fuckin' Pistons can do it, why can't we?

yeah with Castle the thought is "he will be good when his shot starts to fall" and with Sarr its still a question of him figuring out what shots work and dont work for him, when he can adjust to physicality when he's playing defense, etc

with Risacher you look at the current version of him and already think this guy is a good starter even if he doesnt improve at all from this point. but you look at risacher's game today, he looks great at what he does. already has the no-dip 3 point shot. quick release. good timely cutter and can finish above the rim. gets out and runs and finishes in transition. but its not like we are seeing glimpses of handling and shot creation from him. but with castle/sarr there are seeds of very special stuff. so its a ceiling/floor question with these guys. obviously risacher will improve over the years, but not sure how high the ceiling is. still, if he's going to wind up as MPJ with better feel for the game, thats a hell of an outcome even if hes not an offense creator

I long ago stopped worrying about ROTY for Castle and started worrying that this dysfunctional tanking squad could lead him to develop some bad habits.
While his offense has improved his defense has fallen off significantly in the last month +.
We've just seen horrid defense from this squad almost every night for weeks and weeks.
It's disgusting.

Pop is also the president of basketball operations so I have my doubts he was worried about a succession plan for his other job as the coach of the team :rollin

It's actually quite comical to see Gregg with two g's end up being an old selfish elitist when his whole schtick is railing against those people and "getting over yourself":rollin

The audacity of that article talking about Pop deserves to "go out on his own terms". :rollin

Dude pushing 80 and had a stroke but still won't step away and give someone else a chance after 5 championship and at least 100 million dollars in just salary earnings alone:rollin

Risacher had also a terrible game the night before his 36 pts game with -20 5 pts in 26 mn. Rookies have their ups and down, it's part of the process. I don't think neither Sarr or Risacher are a threat to a potential ROTY.

On a side note.. dat FNT prospect is juicy tbh... Vicor, Sarr, Risacher, Bilal, Salaun...

Good reminder for the front office that the good fortune of landing Wemby isn't enough, and there's still work to do!

The problem is the fo doesn't like to turn over the roster very much.

Had Fox not made it clear he wanted to play for the Spurs that trade wouldn't have happened
and even with that trade you can see that the FO didn't want to part with the current core players.

Like Scott has noted the Spurs like to keep the core rotation team together and have a limited roster turn around from year to year.
