View Full Version : So who else here is rooting for Kawhi?

I hope he wins the title this year. He's the best player in the playoffs.

I think he's on a collision course with Giannis and the Bucks.

But I'm rooting for Kawhi Leonard.

Once a San Antonio Spur, always a San Antonio Spur.

He helped bring us a title shutting down LeBron.

Least we can do is support him now.

Always Go Spurs Go, but for these playoffs, it's Go Clippers! :lobt:

My dirty little secret is that Kawhi has been my favourite player in the NBA since Duncan retired. And the Raptors became my second team when he was traded there, and same with the Clippers.

Yes Kawhi acted like a POS in 2017-2018 being enabled by Uncle Dennis, but there’s no 2014 championship and deep playoff runs between 2012-2017 without Kawhi.

No shame in still liking Kawhi.

At the end of the day, the man just wanted to be closer to his family and no one can fault him for that.

He could have been up front about, but wasn’t, and used bullshit tactics to force his way out. Normally, when a player leaves, there are a couple of years of boos that decrease over time. It’s coming up on 7 years, and the boos are loud and continuous because of the bullshit way it was handled. F Kawhi.

Yes Kawhi leaves as a free agent, then that’s his right. He quits on the team with two years left on his contract and hides from the people paying him millions and then tanks his trade value to force a move to LA, well he deserves boos. Honor your contract and then walk.

It's a business at the end of the day.

Heck guys, except for a comment to Tim about wives not allowed on team flights and a HAIL mary from DRob, TD would have been playing for the Magic. Count your blessings. We about to win some titles anyway and have the best young core in the league right now...what's there to be bitter about?

I'm over it. Took a couple years, and that Toronto title run was painful and infuriating to watch... but I've made my peace with it and I don't "hate" Kawhi anymore. Wanted to be close to fam, whatever...

But I'll never root for him. That was some peak level BS what he and his uncle and team did to us, and the reason we have sucked ever since is 100% because of that.

Yes, but Tim played out his contract and had a right to decide where he wanted to go. The issue is not that Kawhi wanted to go to LA. The issue is that the Spurs had a playoff team and were contenders with Kawhi and he quit on that team and that season and all the people that paid to see him play so he could get traded to LA with TWO YEARS left on his contract. And he hid out from the front office reps when they tried to meet him in NYC where he was hiding and he refused to meet with him. I don't hate the guy, I'll just never root for him and never support him. If he left after his contract was up, I wouldn't like it, but I would respect it. That's not what happened.

This is pretty much my mentality towards Kawhi. I despised him from '19-'23 and openly rooted against him but getting Victor allowed me to finally get over it. I still view him as a POS, but I'm not actively invested in wanting to see him fail like I was during that 4-year span. I will never root for him but if he somehow flukes his way to winning it all again like he did in '19 I won't care since I have no emotional investment anymore when it comes to him succeeding or failing.

I’m rooting for Kawhi and the clippers to fail spectacularly, especially considering just how much the clippers were tampering behind the scenes.

However, between the lakers, the clippers, the thunder, and the warriors, things are looking really bad for my agenda as a spurs fan. It seems the nuggets is the best hope in the west.

Nobody respects the Thunder for the exact same reasons nobody respected the Spurs. Small market, quiet superstar that eschews the limelight, defense-first.

They posted the highest point differential and second-highest net rating of all time, but everybody thinks the West is “wide open.”

If the Lakers went 68-14 and +12.9, everybody would think the playoffs were a formality.

Very valid point. I agree. You gotta honor your contract unless a team does you wrong, and Kawhi was treated like royalty. He should have finished his 2 years and the Spurs likely have Torontos ring.

I'm on the fence on this one.

On one hand, I don't wish injury on anybody...but his continued injury history further justifies the Spurs on their prognosis and resulting decisions. Good for him for finally being healthy for a playoff run, I guess.

On the other hand....fuck Kawhi and the way he did San Antonio. Either way, I hope he and the Clippers properly get their ass kicked, so I'm not rooting FOR him.

Kawhi's game and especially his efficiency is hard not to love, when he's healthy.

I've softened on his disgruntled departure from the Spurs as I believe that there was some dysfunction on both sides for that to play out the way it did.
He was a vital cog in a championship and leveled the organization in a way that we were gifted Wemby.

Not ever going to root for this guy again. He did this franchise dirty and if that means being booed till he has left the court for good so be it. He earned that treatment from fans.

I doubt he loses any sleep from it with the millions of dollars he has made from the sport.

Hopefully he torn his acl soon

Spurs developped him, gave him opportunity to win a FMVP on a historical team ( :cry dat beautiful game), gave him the key of the truck for him to quit and betray one the cleanest organization in the professional sport.

So fuck him but as I said dude when healthy is a beast... he was the chose one and went down the path to the dark side... no way I'm rooting for dat pos

I've got no lingering ill-will towards Kawhi, and if not for his inability to stay healthy I'd actually be happy to bring him back to the Spurs.

I find people who hold a deep seated grudge to be hilarious, in a sad way.

With that said, he should still be booed every time he touches the ball here, because that's what you should do to opposing players you have a history with. Like... Dereck Fisher should have been booed the same way forever in San Antonio after 0.4

I'm always going to call him Number Two for the way he forced his way out and how he mishandled the situation. I don't think the Spurs have totally clean hands, but I place the lion's share of the blame on Number Two and his uncle.

I most certainly will never root for him, though I don't care as much about rooting against him as I once did.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'll always have an appreciation for Kawhi, and if there was an alternate universe where he came back to the spurs, I would welcome him back with open arms. Spurs fans are definitely spoiled and take for granted what it takes to get a chip. I mean look at what lebron did to cleveland, ended up winning them one, and he will be forever memorialized there for the better. No question without Kwahi spurs would not have won in 14. That deserves some cache and grace.

Reminded me that the main thing about the entire thing and why I still despise him is because ESPN was sucking him of the entire time from his hiding to him winning a title with the raptors because they thought he’d be going to the lakers. ESPN was hyping him up immensely and too every chance to justify his unjustifiable position while just throwing the spurs organization under the bus.

It was the opposite. The spurs told him and his posse that his injury will not go away and just has to be managed. He disagreed. He didn’t want that answer because it would cost him money so he found some quack doctor who agreed with him. Also, he wanted to do nothing but go back to LA. Winning a title with the raptors wasn’t enough because his mind was set in 2016 or 2017.

I boo him
Because he is a traitor !
He also plays when he wants to not when the team wants to.
He is not a team player. Many bet on games however they never know if he play or not.

No need to worry about a 3rd ring for Kawhi as long as he’s partnered with Big Game James. The BB gods did us a solid there.
