Judging from his comments and reactions, he benefited from nurturing ecosystems, like mother, family, etc

And the Spurs are like that, too, the nurturing aspect...

Not sure we know yet.

This is a question for Castle and Harper, not Fox.

Spurs aren't about to start paying Fox north of 40 million dollars a year and then say "we need you to shoot less and share the ball more with guards who aren't nearly as good as you yet, experienced as you yet, and if we combine their salary and double still don't make as much money as you do"

Fox is going to play like Fox with virtually no consideration for any player on this team except Wemby, and the focus will be on how Castle and Harper can fit around that.

With Fox I mean as he enters the later part of this next contract in two to three years, that he's not going to be wanting to be losing minutes and touches as he's looking for his next one.

Are people seriously taking the ‘Kawhi’s number’ side? Wanting to play for your home team is one thing, but doing it the way Kawhi did killed any ‘respect’ the Spurs and their fans owed him. Long live #2 Harper.

Our local media is embarrassing (as we already knew), Dylan was called "Carter" multiple times lol. Carter and Dylan both making glowing references to Kawhi in their interviews is actually kind of funny, I wouldn't expect them to know off hand that Kawhi is persona non grata around south Texas. That being said, I can only hope both guys have even half as good a work ethic as Kawhi did/does, we'll be in good shape if they do.

The PA announcer at the media day introduced Harper as “the NEW number 2” :lol

Kawhi was a great player for us for 6 seasons. I don’t think there’s a problem that these guys admire his game. Despite how the Kawhi saga ended, it led to us being where we’re at now. 6 years of poverty but hoping and expecting those days to be over. I just watched the Jordan Classic and McDonald’s games and it’s hard to see this dude not being legit.

Step One: It's a match!
Second step: have a date with your match.
Step Three: Have a date with your match during which you discover that she is wearing a dress that looks like one of your ex's.
Step four: discover that your date actually knew your ex.
Step Five: Listen to your date spend her time saying all the good things she thinks about your ex.
Step Six: Relax and enjoy.

They're not trading Dylan for him after just introducing him to the fans. I saw that displeasure thing, but that doesn't mean he didn't know about Dame getting waived. He might just be saying that publicly. Having said that, if the Bucks did it without telling him, sh$t might hit the fan.

Yeah, darn, I remember someone posting that quote recently. Not a good sign for the teams that signed him. Really doesn't give you much confidence.

True. I forget/don't think that D-Harp is well off, but still, both he and his brother have worked their asses off to try and make it in the NBA.

Speaking of his brother, I saw that the Pistons have released him? If RH Jr. can't get a deal with another NBA team (not sure if he's willing to go overseas if he can't get a deal with another NBA team), I wonder if the Spurs would take a look at him for the Austin Spurs or something. It'd be cool if they could at least live together.

The only good thing about that answer is that it proved he’s not a liar. He was and still is in it for the money, only the money.

Very true. In a way, I respect that he was at least being honest. Doesn't make me feel good if I were the team signing him, though.

Regardless of being well off, he's still worked his ass off to get here. Being well off doesn't get you to the number 2 pick. He's put in the work. It seems his parents (mom especially) have also done a great job with him IMO.

Same here. I'm hyped for that trio to wreak some havoc out there. I am a bit worried about the Fox injury I just read about, though. I hope it's not serious so that he can build some chemistry with the guys before the season starts. If he's out for extended time, then that would start the Spurs off of the back foot again, though, which would make a playoff bid harder.

All good!

I think the privilege for Dylan is nature and nurture of growing up with a father in the league and an ultra-competitive mom. Obviously, the money did not hold he or his brother back. When the NBA and college basketball are part of the family business, a kid grows up with tremendous insight on what it might take to get there themselves. Others are relying on coaches and guessing what it really takes to make it in the league. Also, Ron Harper Sr. was such a stellar player and had a hard-nosed style of play. That must've been part of his upbringing too. I doubt Andrew Bynum or DeAndre Ayton will have sons that play in the NBA. I love seeing all the 2nd generation players and coaches in the league.

Born on the third base works in the business normal people world, but for athletes you’d still have to put in the work and genuinely love the game. Sure he’d get more and better training that most other people don’t get and you can connect with people who can come and see you early and give you pointers, but given the ridiculously small pool of people who can make it to the top, and you can’t really hide like you do in business (getting people to do your work and getting all the credit), rich kids making it to the nba could actually be a good sign because they are willing to go through all of that hard work despite having a pile of money available already

its just a plain old fact…

kid grew up well off…

if you were born and your father was royalty…
of course you would still have to practice your craft and dedicate yourself to reach the top rung

but you were born to royalty and you would have the best education, the best connections, the best tutors, the best chefs, the best guidance, the best equipment, the best facilities to hone your craft in,

Good genes most likely, a home where excellence was encouraged and fostered

and so many other things in your daily life to give you the best advantage…

lets face it…we grew up watching the original nba rosters and they paved the way…but these last few years we are watching their offspring follow their footsteps and its good to see and i am just stating facts…

no one should be getting defensive…Del curry was surely a factor in setting his kids on the right path….Jaren jackson and his star kid now, etc…

pretty sure these kids know they are lucky and im guessing most of them have been taught to be humble because black people were not “born on third base” in this country….

so hopefully their fathers learned from their fathers about the rough road they had to endure…and each generation has opportunities the last ones did not

but this new generation of ballers had a privileged upbringing and their fathers paved the way…

Look at a barely talented person like Taylor Swift. She comes from an outrageous amount of money. For basketball, those AAU circuits are extremely expensive to take part in, and most of those top players hire expensive coaches. It's like how Hollywood is covered in nepo-kids. It's always been that way to some degree, but is now worse. At some point recently the Golden State Warriors, almost all their players had fathers who played in the NBA.

That's not to rag on Dylan. He's a really good player regardless, and seems to come from a very good family.

Yes, that makes sense. More so the insight of what it takes to make it there from his father and mother rather than going with people that never made it to the NBA, they'd be guessing or have an idea of what it takes, but since they haven't, it's closer to a guess. The main thing I was thinking of when I asked that question, maybe the money could have afforded him better training, and access to more stuff such as food, nutrition, training facilities, coaching etc. (a few other people have already posted about this on this page before I read their replies), but then it's probably more the experience of his father and basketball knowledge from his mother than helped the most. I definitely believe he and his brother have worked hard and it's not just natural talent in his case.

Great point about guys like Ayton and Bynum. I'd still be interested to follow Ayton's kid if ever had a kid good enough to make it. That's be super interesting, especially if he ends up better. It's also cool to see the kids of players make it and see how they do. I was always interested in Michael Jordan's sons, Shaq's kids etc. when I was young thinking they might be great players, but doesn't look like any of them panned out so I sort of stopped looking at 2nd generation players from superstar players. I always thought Kobe would have had a great possibility if he had a son (maybe Gianna would have been the one in the WNBA to reach that potential) to have a superstar player.

I'm sort of blanking right now, but can't think, who are the best players of an NBA superstar as their fathers? I can't think of any being better than their dads off the top of my head. Dads that were role players, yes, but can't think of any superstar player's kids that have turned out to be better players? I guess role players are able to install a work ethic easier as they had to grind more in their careers?

Domantas Sabonis has had a better NBA career than his dad, but his dad was so old and beat up that he was hardly a superstar by the time he got to the NBA. And Domantas still was never as good as Arvydas.
