29/30 for me...Guess I get to stay.

Trick question on terms for the PRESIDENT. He/she can always run again LATER with no limitation, by definition, a person can have more than 2 terms, but, again, technically, that person would be a DIFFERENT president (by number). Grover Cleveland is your example as the 22d and 24th president (though combined 2-termer) even though he was elected BEFORE that amendment was introduced/passed/ratified.

Mr Ash, I stand corrected. No person may EVER hold the presidency MORE than two terms EVER due to the 22nd Amendment. Clinton actually questioned that. My bad. Thanks for the challenge. I welcome it.

#8 & #13. I couldn't remember the amendment for establishing the voting age at 18 but, I think I could quibble with the answer to #13. I said House of Representatives since it is they that accept the state's certified slates and tally the electoral college vote and, in the event of dispute, select the President and Vice President. I couldn't remember if the House had the authority to reject slates so, I flipped a coin and came down wrong...

But, I guess I was overthinking the question.

You actually can serve a maximum of 2.5 terms.

If a president is assassinated/removed/steps down from office at least 1 day past the halfway mark in his term, the VP takes over, and if the VP serves less than half the term, he can run for two more terms.

The question said how many full terms. So, technically, you could serve 2 terms, 3 years, and 364.99 days if the President were assassinated on the inaugural podium. I'm not clear what happens if he's bites it between the electoral college vote and the inauguration.

I don't think so.

Less than 10 years is the max ... unless I'm dumber than you (which is very possible).

Amendment XXII

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Section 2. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several states within seven years from the date of its submission to the states by the Congress.

I got 24.

Thomas Jefferson started the two term tradition by not electing to run for for President after his 2nd term. After that most Presidents only served two terms, I forgot which President I think it was Monroe who served 3 terms. Then they eventually got it into the constitution saying a President can only serve twice.

I missed:
total number of amendments
amendment that sets voting age to 18
number of assasinated president (this is one I should have known)
the right to create an income tax amendment

As you can see those are pretty specific and are not taught and rarely discussed outside the US (apart of the # assasinated question) - the ones I got I concider more or less general knowledge (even for foreigners). After reviewing the questions I think you should be able to score between 20 and 26 points just by paying attention during holywood action movies :lol and/or watching the discovery channel :)

Re- reading my post I realized I failed to make my point. I find it interesting how the foreigners who posted in this thread either passed or came close to it. A similar test for any other country we would all fail miserably. I think it's an indicator of how succesfully US exports it's culture/society abroad and influences other societies.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing (at least not all of it) or that it should be fought by passing laws restricting the US influence (unsuccessfully like France and to a certain extent the EU) or even worse fight it with religon and firearms (like some muslim leaders suggest), but you can't deny that it is present and very successful.

27. On my first day of class my senior year of high school my government teacher gave part of the citizenship exam. I was one of the two students out of 30 of us who were qualified to be American citizens. It's a shame we couldn't have deported those who failed, as I really wouldn't have missed any of them.
