No dude. Gervin scored those 33 points in one quarter in the NBA (I believe that record still stands...)

If I remember he was battling David Thompson from the nuggets for the scoring title

Yup-

david scored ealier in that day 73 [32 in the 1st q(record) 53 in 1st half (record) ]. Everybody in Gervin's team were passing him the ball but he was off. He told them not to give him ball every possesion. But they didn't listen they were feeding him with the ball and he starst hitting them :) Making 33 in the secod what is still the record and 53 in the half.
Gervin scored 63 that night earning his first (of four -3 staright) scoring title - that was the last day of the regular season in 1978 :)

I thought Sleepy Floyd held that record.
I think Sleepy Floyd scored 28 points in a quarter in a playoff game, which is a playoff record.
