Excuses? From a Spurs fan? :)
You will always hear Spurs fans always say after a season loss:
"if it ain't the playoffs, we don't care if we lose",
"they couldn't beat us in a 7-game series",
"it's only one game",
"look at our record, (we're much better than all the crap out there)",
etc,
but if the Spurs have big season win, then it's resoundingly important.
Outside of Spurs' fandom, this is denigrated as a "double standard". :)
If Manu plays in Detroit, even in the Toronto, he won't be in game shape, and Pop will probably keep his minutes, and therefore his effectiveness, down. We saw this situation earlier this season when he came back from the thigh bruise.
I figure Sunday's game will more probably be a Finals Game3 or 4 rather than a Finals Game5. The Pistons are much better and tougher right now, and apparently on a mission.

Ha! You just reminded me of a quote from one of Manu's most famous fans!
In the old days, you didn't take two days off for a hangnail or a yeast infection like they do these days. I can't believe a guy would sit out of a game for a broken nose. I played with a broken nose. I strapped one of those head gears on, couldn't see side-to-side, so I took it off like a man and played. I saw Larry Bird do it too. You can't sit out with a broken nose. You don't need your nose to play basketball.

Thats getting real old and annoying. I bet you did that in 2002-2003 with the Mavs too? And last year you were saying the Rockets would beat us in the playoffs. Look how that turned out....

I don't know when Manu will come back, but I hope Pop brings him off the bench. That will allow him to keep his minutes down while playing in short, maniacal bursts (or should I say Manuical bursts). The way Finley is playing, why rush Manu back into the starting lineup?
pop should just rest manu, theres no reason to risk his injury just to play him against the tough pistons squad.
even though i would certainly hate the pistons winning and having a psyche advantage over us id rather see manu on the bench and have finley get a feel of a finals rematch come june against them.

it's just facts. can't handle the facts?
"I bet you did that in 2002-2003 with the Mavs too? "
you lose that bet. The Mavs were never to be our Finals opponents. The Spurs-Pistons matchup this year is special, if you can imagine how.

I'd like to see a healthy Ginobili at 100% on Sunday. Doesn't look like that'll happen, though....if he rests, or plays <100%, hey, it's still only December.....

I never believed the Spurs woulnd't win it all last year,
so I never said the Rockets would beat the Spurs.
Pessmist? It was T_park who quit on the Spurs in the Finals, and lied about abstaining from this board, a famous little fact he now wants everybody to forget as "old" (like last June?), while sliming me with the his "old" Rockets shit.

Spurs should rest Manu. The game might be a little hyped, but for all practical purposes mean nothing in the big picture. Pistons fans want to see Manu too. It would be great. But, if he isn't healthy, I don't think it'w worth the risk just to appease the viewing audience. Despite what some people think, even some Spurs fans, the Spurs are good enough to beat the Pistons even without Manu. It's just one game.

I can handle facts, I've handled them for quite some time as a Spurs fan, thanks. The Mavs were always ahead of us for the best record, did you keep up with their losses like you do the Pistons. Yeah, you did say the Rockets wuold beat us, and sorry, no I'm not gonna give you a link because I have better things to do than look for that. Several people probably remember you saying the same thing. So I guess I don't need to STFU just yet then.

Looks like Rip is listed as "questionable" for our game against the Warriors tomorrow (he fell hard as hell on his ass against Portland). I'd imagine he'll play against the Spurs, but you never know. If anything, this will most likely make the Bowen ownage even worse if he does play. Looking forward to a 3 for 16 shooting night or some crap from him.

even if rip's at full health, a 3 for 16 game is still possible for a good bowen defense. but rip's one hell of a player though..

From a basketball fan's perspective, I would like to see both full teams at work.
From Ginobili's health's point of view, he should rest until 100% healed.
I bet Pop will opt the second choice, because once inside the court, Manu will play at full gear and there's no way to for Pop to protect him from injury again.

Last year I would say no doubt about it. But Rip was shooting in the 52% range before he injured his shooting hand against Charlotte, and through those 20 or so games he really hadn't had a "Stinker" type game that he used to be prone to every few games. This offense really gets him a a lot more wide open looks. Not questioning Bowen's defense (he's the best in the league IMO), but I would have really liked to see what he could to at full health against Bowen in Flip's offense. Guess we'll have to wait for the Finals for that :hat Here's to hoping both teams are at full strength in the playoffs! :drunk
