Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers' All-star shooting guard, has formally committed to playing for Team USA in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Bryant, who was expected to join the team, made it official following a meeting with Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo.

"I told him I'm down with it," Bryant told the newspaper. "This is our sport, this is basketball."

Bryant is in the midst of another dominating season with the Lakers. Heading into L.A.'s Christmas day game against Miami, Bryant was averaging 32.1 points per game, along with 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He scored a career-high 62 points in just 33 minutes against Dallas on Dec. 20.

He did kind of have a little matter going on in the summers of 2003 and 2004.

That that it wasn't his own fault, but I doubt he could have tended to one and attended the other.

kobe is ok on the team but that is one ball hog, put James and Iverson on no more of that nature = than fill the team with some interior rebounding stars and needed role players.

I hope Shaq also commits to team USA soon. We would definately win the gold for the most drama queens on any team.

Shaw was never going to be on the team anyway. He's all about getting paid. Besides that, with the three year commitment involved and the continual breaking down of his body, he would not be reliable enough to hold up. Add to that the fact that the Heat would be very uncomfortable committing all that money to him and having him down even more games over the course of the next three seasons, and Shaq was never going to be on that team.

Kobe being on that team does not seal the deal since there was no chance anyway. Kobe needs this more so he can attempt to re-establish his legacy now that he's been exposed as a jerk.

Kobe could be the difference.

Wanna know something? The US lost because Brown was the coach.

No offense, but how in the fuck do you keep James/Wade/Carmello on the bench.

I know they play the same position, but you mean to tell me that Wade or James cant play the 2?

Shit, James could play the 4 against most of the competition in the world.

LB = USA loss

Maybe we can set an Olympic record for putting up the most shots and fewest assists.

It really doesnt matter who we get. It's the attitude is why we lost. Not the game.
