To a degree.
But Michigan had to use TWO timeouts because of their incompetence.

And did you see at the end of the game where the Michigan player headed towards a WHOLE LOT of red shirts.

Of all the fuck-ups, that one was the worst.

Not at that time, they weren't.
In College-ball, what would offsetting penalties result in?

Michigan had their shot to score, and the guy who got tackled screwed it up, he shoulda lateraled it to 15 or 16 way before he got tackled. If you think an offsetting penalty woulda given michigan a better chance than that last play you are wrong.

HEY, it's only a question, because I don't know the answer.

Personally, I think he made the bad decision by not running straight into the hoard of red shirts who had invaded the field.
Even that bunch of Zebras would have figured that was a penalty.

I don't know either, but if Michigan woulda scored, i woulda hated to see it wiped out by offsetting penalties. The guy on Michigan who got tackled was an idiot for not at least trying to lateral the ball.

Offsetting penalties might have been replay the down I guess.

No...

My question relates purely to the College rules.

If the officials HAD thrown one flag (suppose for Nebraska invading the field, though that lot would have probably thrown a flag for Michigan's invasion), then what would be the play (given the final down at the 15)? It can't end on a defensive penalty, can it? And where would be the spot?

If the officials HAD thrown two flags (offseting), then what would happen. Would it be a replay of the down with 2 seconds remaining (which, for Michigan, WOULD be a better result than occurred)

Then it would go back to the line of scrimage and 0 left. Just have 1 last play.

It would have been reviewed and then they would notice both. So the game would just end or they would have 1 last play at the line of scrimage.

Is that another College rule?
In the NFL, if a flag is thrown, it cannot be changed on review to say "but they did one too". Not sure that it can even be reviewed. Does anyone here know the actual rules that would be enforced? It's totally useless, since it's now history. But I'm curious.

12-29-2005, 01:48 AM
I don't know if it is a rule or not. I am just assuming that is what they would do with this new review stuff.

I just watched the final play, and damn. Ecker has lost Michigan the last two games. He didn't lateral it in the Alamo Bowl, and against Ohio State with time winding down, he didn't go out of bounds, but towards the middle, even though he was 4 feet away from it.
