T. Smith- 8/11 206 yds 2 TDs
I cant imagine how good could OSU could have been if the coaches didnt screw up early in the year with the starting QB situation.

Is it just me, or does Brent Musburger have some scarlett and grey pom poms in his hands as he announces this game?
Notre Dame's scores are irrelevant; Ohio State's are the greatest plays in the history of college football.

Brent almost always seems to favor the Buckeyes.

I don't usually have a dog in that fight, so I rarely pay attention, but it seemed pretty obvious to me that Brent has some sort of unprofessional affection for the Ohio State University and its student-athletes.

They were in a BCS bowl because the BCS contract said that they had to be in a BCS bowl.
I suspect that next season, ND will be a legit BCS team and might even have a chance to play for a title. We'll see, but if I'm right, I'm sure they'll still be overrated media darlings, even if they beat all comers.

Not true. The "at large" could have been the higher ranked (2nd place Pac 10, #5 BCS ranked) Oregon Ducks, but they chose the Fucking Irish instead. It's all about the Benjamins.
AFAIK, the only "hafta" in the BCS world is that one and two must meet in the designated bowl for that year. There are certain conference champs that get BCS bids, but the bowls get to pick in a certain order, and if they want to pick a mediocre but rich alumnied Irish team that qualifies as "at large" , you really can't stop them.

did they change it from last year?... because if you are ranked 4th or higher (but not conference champ) and in a bcs conference, then you automatically get a bid. also, if you are 6th or higher and not in a bcs conference, then you also get a bid.

That would be news to the BCS Commissioner, Kevin Weiberg.
In August 2005, reporting on the BCS annual conference, the Arizona Republic noted that in 2005, the Irish receive an automatic berth if they finish in the top 6 of the BCS standings; if a non-BCS school qualifies, the Irish are guaranteed a spot with nine wins or a top-10 finish. They are BCS-eligible if they win nine games and finish in the top 12.
Notre Dame finished this season ranked #6 in the BCS, which meant that they were like any conference champion -- automatically qualified for the BCS. By contract, one of the BCS games had to choose Notre Dame this year. This year, there were 7 automatic qualifiers in the BCS: USC (Pac-10 champion), Texas (Big XII champion), Penn State (Big Ten champion), Florida State (ACC Champion), Georgia (SEC Champion), West Virginia (Big East Champion), and Notre Dame. That left only one at-large spot -- the spot that went to Ohio State. Oregon wasn't competing with Notre Dame for that BCS spot; Oregon was competing against Ohio State.
