Ron Artest's selection as NBA Defensive Player of the Year will become official Monday.

Although league officials have not confirmed the winner, they have announced the award will be presented on that day. The Indiana Pacers have announced a news conference for the same day, and a team official confirmed Saturday night that Artest will be getting the award.

Artest's defense was a factor in the Pacers' 104-88 victory over Boston on Saturday. He played the lead role in holding the Celtics' leading scorer, Paul Pierce, to 20 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Pierce also committed eight turnovers and hit just one field goal after the first quarter.

Artest was runner-up in the Defensive Player of the Year balloting last season, when Detroit's Ben Wallace won the award for the second consecutive year. Artest was named to the first-unit all-defensive team by the media.
