A lifetime dream
By Manu

This is amazing! What I've felt this night I will never forget and I would like to explain it. A minute before the end of the game my skin was like a chicken (note: This is an Argentine saying for a very very big emotional moment). When I hugged with Pepe (Sanchez) and the Puma (Montecchia), I felt like crying. I looked at their faces and it was even worse! After the big dissapointment in Indianapolis, every single sensation yesterday was stronger.

Everything went out as wished. Really, we came looking for a medal. We didn't knew the colour. We had to watch how the tournament was developing and it was happenning, with a favourable match up (note:Greece), a great game against the U.S., and this huge work against the Italians.
Today it was a big cost of hard work to win.

They may not be talented, but they're a strong team, very dangerous in the Point Guard and Shooting Guard positions, and with big shooters. We had to defend toughly. The idea was to run a lot (note: In fast breaks) because their centers are big and slow. I think there we made a difference.

I'm happy because I started the tournament with some doubts, I came with a worse preparation than the rest of the team with my marriage and I wasn't very reliable. But as the games were passing I gain confidence, got lots of touches on the ball, I started feeling good and I liked it.

I had a lot of offensive participation, but also, I never lost the collective sense and doing everything for the team. The idea is to produce something positive always. Today I was asking myself in which moment I felt we won the game. Actually, at the 40 minutes. It was such the attention and the desire to don't make any mistakes that we wouldn't want to supose anything before it happened. Not even when we got a 12 point lead near the end. We were very focused to win.

I was also asked to compare the NBA ring that I won with San Antonio back in 2003 with the Olympic medal. It's impossible. Both are very different things, and both are very important. I say that I achieved two unique things. I would love to go back to Buenos Aires to keep celebrating with the people and know how they lived there this golden medal, but I have commitments to attend in Europe and I'm not coming back until mid-September.

It would have been beautiful to repeat the Indianapolis World Championship stuff, all together in the Ezeiza airport celebrating. Here the celebrations continue, we're all mad. The thing is that in a few hours we all take different ways and we want to enjoy the few hours left.

In fact, I don't know when we will be back together with the National team boys. I surelly will take a year off because I need a rest and a special preparation. These have been to intense years without many rest. Of course I would like to be in another Olympic Game, but there's a long way until Beijing 2008.

Nothing can be forseen now. Besides, I want to live this party that still looks like a dream. The dream of my life.
