Does anyone know exactly how to interpret this? How reliable do you think this is? Does Detroit (#30) have a tougher schedule than SA (#9)?

No, it's the other way around. Pistons have had a cake schedule over the last couple weeks (outside of the @SA game). They were middle-of-the-pack untill they hit this strech that included Boston, Orlando, Charlotte, Portland, Seattle, and Utah at home. That strech really killed their strength of schedule rating.

It's pretty pointless anyways. The Pistons seem to have a lot more trouble with bad teams than they do good teams (As do the Spurs).

I have too much time on my hands, here is the remaining Schedule for the Spurs, the number in front indicates where they presently rank in the league according to Win %.
The P on some of them indicates they would be in the playoffs if they started today (which is pretty much useless, but oh well). I did this just for myself, but might as well share.
There are alot of teams hovering right below, or above .500, so the ranks could change quickly.

12 Milwaukee .528 P
6 Miami .590 P
14 Denver .513 P
29 Charlotte .289
18 NO/Oklahoma City .486
12 Minnesota .514 P

Considering the teams the Spurs have lost to, I don't know how much any of this means. It's interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, great teams like Detroit and San Antonio are still human. Perhaps they look at games against easier teams in the regular season as tune-up ops, rest ops, or just experience mental lulls. It happens. And one needs to remember that even the Atlantas and Torontos have professional athletes on their rosters. So in an 82 game season, literally anything can happen, but the good thing is most embarrassing moments can be forgotten and wiped clean of the slate when the marathon playoffs begin.

You could remove "against easier teams" from your sentence to describe the Spurs approach to the season.

ie:

The Spurs look at games in the regular season as tune-up ops, rest ops, or just experience mental lulls.

That's about right.

i don't think pop takes any team lightly. it may look like they are at times, but i doubt that is the message coming from the coaching staff or the attitude of the players. it's just impossible to remain totally focused for the longest season in professional sports. nov-june is a considerable amount of time

Well, that's going to affect Detroit's RPI. The AP poll has them as a 3 seed in the East Rutherford bracket.
