View Full Version : Good News on Manu!

I say "good news" because it looked like it could've been worse.

Ginobili, Horry to miss Sunday's game
Spurs guard Manu Ginobili and forward Robert Horry will both miss Sunday's noon home game against the Denver Nuggets, according to Bob Ballou of KENS 5 Eyewitness News.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Saturday that Ginobili is expected to be out a week or two with a sprained right ankle, Ballou reported. X-rays on Ginobili's ankle were negative.

"It's not devastating, but it's a real pain in the neck," Popovich said.

Horry will miss his third straight game Sunday due to a lower abdominal strain.

Either Michael Finley or Brent Barry is likely to start in Ginobili's place. Finley has made 18 starts this season, but he said Saturday he thinks it might be more beneficial for him to continue to come off the bench.

Ginobili is averaging 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists this season. He has already missed 10 games due to injury this season including eight games with a right mid-foot sprain. Horry is averaging 5.3 points and 3.9 rebounds.

Finley is averaging 10.3 points and Barry is averaging 4.8 points. Barry has not started a game this season, but started eight regular-season games last season and also started eight games in the playoffs.

I thought he'd be out at least a month.

I just saw the video of Pop on WOAI. It was from today's practice so I wonder if they had MRI results back already. He says that he thinks 1-2 weeks and that it's "not a horrible sprain".

"Probably a week to two weeks," said Popovich. "It's not a horrible sprain; nothing is broken. But he's going to have a tough time for a few days. So he'll probably miss three or four games, I guess."

ya thats a big time relief. i nearly had a heart attack last night when i saw that. damn sprained ankles.

i'd like to see barry start and just see how he does in that role for a few games before we do anything else.

Frail or fragile? Any way, if you step on someone else's foot, whether jumping or running, the ankle is going to roll on you. Udonis Haslem tried to step in with a wide stretch of his left leg as Manu penetrated down the middle and was planting to jump. There was nothing Manu or anyone in his position could have done to prevent that ankle sprain.

Bad news for the spurs. :elephant
Are you that afraid that your team can't compete with the Spurs if we're healthy? I don't know about you but if I'm going up against someone in competition or in a fight, I want my rival to be at 100% you coward.

The mavs can take the spurs with or without Ginobili. They just need more rest so they can upset the pistons in the finals. Any team led by Rasho is in trouble. Mohammad better be starting or the spurs are in trouble.

Rasho did a better job last night against the Heat than Nazr did. I'm not a big Rasho fan myself but we aren't half way into the season yet so who knows? Maybe Rasho will continue to improve. Besides how many rings do the Mavs have troll?

Yeah well the past doesn't mean shit. Dallas has the most talented they have ever had so I feel this is their year. The stats show that Dallas is a much better rebounding team than the spurs this year and they have greatly improved their defense as of late. 9th in the league and moving up. Anyways what's your point? Are you saying because Dallas hasn't gotten any rings that means they won't this year also? The spurs in the early 90's were a regular seaon team also until finally they broke through in 99.

The past means a whole lot when you have three rings to show. It's history, man. Part of our greatness as a team. Get a ring first and then talk shit. And the whole thing about celebrating a rival's injury -- just plain shitty. No class, man.

Alright you got good points. I shouldn't have celebrated or said anything about Manu's injury. Still the 3 rings doesn't mean you are guaranteed a victory over Dallas just because of the experience. If Dallas plays to their potential they can beat anybody.

If alot of teams play to their potential they can beat anybody. And yes, Dallas has a damn good team this year. But stats don't mean much when it comes to playoff and championship experience. And I'm in no way saying that we are going to have a cakewalk through the playoffs. Let's see what happens in Spring.

The Spurs play 7 games in the next 2 weeks:

Jan 22- vs Denver
Jan 24- vs Bobcats
Jan 25- @ Hornets
Jan 28- vs Timberwolves
Jan 30- @ Jazz
Feb 1 - @ Portland
Feb 2 - @ Golden State

After the GS game they have 5 days off. Plenty of time for Ginobli to rest and the scheule isn't that tough to face without him.

The Mavs don't stand a chance against the Spurs in the playoffs, the Suns are more of a threat to the Spurs than the Mavs.

The suns suck. They don't stand a chance against the spurs if they play. They proved that last year. Nash can't guard Parker.

SPURS, SUN and Mav are pretty on par and Lakers are improving.

mavsfan1000
01-22-2006, 03:41 AM
The lakers? They aren't going far though they give the mavs trouble. The suns don't have the size to matchup with the spurs which leaves the mavs. They got 2 7 footers at PF and C and a long SF at 6'8. I think it is important to match the size of the spurs to beat them. At least put a 7 footer on Duncan so he doesn't shoot over you easily.

Dallas has the material, but no the spirit (sorry if this sounds offensive), I see Filnley taking Manu's role very well.

IMO, The only team that is almost invencible is DET.

mavsfan1000
01-22-2006, 06:00 AM
Dallas is 2-0 against Detroit so I wouldn't call them invincible either. I do believe there are only 3 teams that can win it this year. Dallas, San Antonio, and Detroit. The others are pretenders.

I can't see Dallas making it through the finals.
I love how the flying german plays, but he isn't a leaderon both sides. Furthermore I don't see a true second offensive threat, there is a bunch of players (some big time loosers as Van Horn, Stackhouse) who can be good but have to prove themselves in a playoff context (Howard, Terry, Harris, Daniels).
How can you trashtalk about Rasho when you're 70 million dollar center Dampier is playing so bad that Avery Johnson must put him on the bench?

When Amare returns Suns>Mavs easily. Mavs have to prove they can beat the suns before they even want to start somewhat talking about being in an elite class like the Spurs or Pistons. It isnt hate either its just facts.

Yes it is hate. The mavs don't have to play the suns till the western conference finals anyway since the suns will be the 2 seed most likely. Suns>Mavs easily=mavs hater and Amare will not be the same when he comes back. Look what happened to Chris Webber after microfracture surgery. It can ruin careers. Amare will be more tentative instead of attacking the rim like he used to.

Sounds fair, but Even I see Dirk as the only Intl's SuperStar (not considerin Tim obviously), he (Dirk) didn't carried well his teams, I mean as well as an NBA Champ Need.

IMO Spurs has TIM, Manu, Bruce, Robert and that kid TONY PARKER ( :drunk) all of them could carry the team in any giving night ... In the other hand DET is solid, perhaps MAVs have found their measure but in Championship series Teams need more than I can see (up to now) in MAVs.

Dalllas can not defend Tony Parker, and they have never been able to. He would average 25 and Dallas would be toast. Next.

That is good news about Manu. When I initially saw it happen I thought he was going to be out fo 6-8 weeks. Great news!

1) Dallas has not beat the Pistons twice unless you count pre-season and that is inane.

2) Dallas has the most talent ever?

Huh?

They had Dirk, Steve Nash and Finley - two superstars and an all star but did not know how to put it together plus they had Van Exel playing at a very high level one year torching teams in the playoffs.

Look Dallas still has a relatively talented and deep squad with some nice young players especialy, but lets not make rash statements.

3) I agree about the Suns, Suns are the Spurs greater competition. Pop has said many times they are the Spurs toughest matchup (at least in the West).
