Seems like that's what is happening.

Signing him to a 10 day contract?

Was it Sanders or Ford that was impressive in the offseason? I can't remember. :smokin

Yes, he was at practice and it appears that's the plan.

Sanders is the 6'4-6'5 swingman who is a good defender. Ford is a slight power forward.

Also I belive Ford is with the Suns organization now, unless they cut him.

Isn't Ford with Phoenix?

They cut him. He plays in the DLeague for Fayetteville.

But they aren't picking up Ford (he's a PF). They are picking up Sanders.

I wondered why he didn't play toinght.

Why do the Spurs keep wasting time with Sanders? He's not an NBA player. He's not big enough or athletic enough to play on this level.

He's a decent energy player but I think Holt should just save his money.

I'm pretty sure that I saw Melvin at the last HOME game (so before Manu got injured). So I'm guessing he was already under consideration to be re-signed.

Sanders blows. He's too small and too raw. I can't understand what Pop sees in Sanders. I was hoping that they could sign someone with a little more potential to a ten-day contract. Sanders is a waste of a roster spot right now.

Hopefully they don't have to use him.

Bowen/Barry/Finley will get the bulk of the minutes at the swingspots, plus they'll use the NVE and TP in the backcourt at the same time on occasion.

Sanders is just a 10-day signing of someone who knows the system who can be a practice player. I don't think they are looking for potential - just 10-day filler.

That's right.

Btw who you'd rather seen in the spurs uniform?
They know Sanders and now they need him :)

Who would I rather see?

Theron Smith, Glenn Robinson.

Are you being sarcastic? Because just a few months ago, you really liked this guy and thought Holt was cheap for not signing him.

Not to answer a question intended for someone else, but I don't recall timvp ever being high on Sanders. He is good defensively, but he is probably to short to ever become a great defender against most 2/3's and not quick enough to defend 1's. Offensively, I think's it's best we don't discuss that :lol

Sanders is a good choice since Manu isn't out for too long, he knows the system.
Even if a guy like Theron Smith is maybe better, I think he won't be as effective for 10 days as Sanders.

He's doing good. He was on the All-Star team and played really well. People were telling him as the game ended that he would get MVP. But they ended up giving it to someone on the LOSING team instead :rolleyes

He's averaging something like 14 and 7 and second in the league in blocks while playing awesome D. Over the last few games, he's averaging about 21 and 11.

He was no where for a long time (just hanging out) but spent the last five or six games in the DLeague.

I'd rather see Kareem Reid rather than Beno Udrih.

As MI21 noted, I was never really high on Sanders. I wanted the Spurs to give him a chance but I was always skeptical about what he can do against NBA talent.

He just doesn't have the tools. He tries hard but that isn't enough.

I wonder what it would take to get brown back
the spurs would have his option next year and could let him walk to go to a team that could play him more minutes or keep him
atleast brown knows the spurs system and should be healthy or manu....

Don't look now but Devin is shooting over 50% in January and over 40% from beyond the arc.

Huh? I see .308 3pt this month. Last month it was .385, which was almost as good as his 2pt% for December (.404).

It's all good though -- we'll trade Barry and the Jazz won't pick up Devin's option.

Trading Barry depends on how he performs while Manu is out IMO. Seems like all the time on the bench sparked a fire in his ass against Miami.

Here's the official announcement on Melvin ...

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs today announced they have signed guard Melvin Sanders. Per club policy terms of the deal were not released.

Sanders was signed on 11/9 after appearing in the Spurs 2005 training camp. The 6-5, 210-pounder played in five regular season games for the Silver and Black and averaged 2.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes. He was waived on 11/19.

The 25-year-old Sanders also suited up for the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBA Development League during the 2005-06 season. He averaged 20.6 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting .639 (39-61) in five games. Sanders posted a season-high 28 points on 11-16 shooting at Little Rock on 1/19.

Sanders averaged 15.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in five games with the Spurs summer league team at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Revue. The Oklahoma State product spent the 2004-05 season with the Dakota Wizards of the CBA where he averaged 18.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists on his way to being selected to the All-CBA Second Team and the CBA All-Defensive First Team.

My bad. He was 0-3 from three-point land last night, dropping him from 4-10 to 4-13. Forgot to look at the updated stats this morning.

Marvin Sanders........

He was acting like Kobe in that game...

But you'd know better, wasn't like I was AT the game.
