The "Spirit of Indiana Basketball" has taken flight.
Pacers representatives were invited to Grissom Air Force Reserve Base near Peru, IN, for the unveiling of nose artwork on a KC-135 Stratotanker last Wednesday. The artwork is a Pacers logo emblazoned with the phrase, "The Spirit of Indiana Basketball."

Former Pacers player Darnell Hillman, currently the franchise's Director of Camps, Clinics and Alumni Relations, was present for the ceremony. The KC-135 Stratotanker is assigned to the 434th Refueling Wing of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Its main task is to provide mid-air refueling to long-range bomber, fighter and cargo aircraft for all major commands of the Air Force as well as the Navy, Marine Corps and allied nations. The 434th Air Refueling Wing is one of the key aerial refueling units in the Air Force Reserve Command.

The unveiling was part of a program the Department of Defense has authorized to allow similar types of art on USAF Reserves planes to help the crews stay connected with their local communities. The crews carries postcards featuring the artwork, facts about their plane and the featured artwork. The postcards featuring the "Spirit of Indiana Basketball" artwork features a brief history of the Indiana Pacers franchise.

Air Force reservists currently stationed at Grissom were invited to the Pacers' 101-79 victory over Phoenix tonight as a thanks for their involvment with the project.
