Just saw some reports on Orangebloods (Ketch's site) that big time safety prospect out of California, Jonas Mouton, is now a heavy lean to UT. He was planning on heading to USC, but seems he had a change of perspective after watching the national championship game. Plus, and I'm sure this is a big factor for him as well, he would have to deal with more competition at USC for a starting safety position. So, looks like we might be bringing this kid in for a visit and then hopefully he commits to UT. Good size as well, about 6'2/205-210lbs, and likes to hit people.

Mack is going to show his stuff w/o fear of being labeled a great recruiter who can't coach. Bodes well for UT football.

^ Well, the one main argument that schools like oklahoma, USC, LSU, etc. could make with recruits was that you won't play for a national championship if you go to UT. Well, that shit is out the window now. Recruits now know that not only will you have a chance to compete for and play in BCS bowl games, but also have a shot at winning a national championship. Combine that fact with positives such as NFL quality training facilities, a proven history of sending players to the NFL, and amazing living environment in Austin, as well as a top notch education-man that's a lot of positives working in your favor. I think we'll really start to see the benefits of winning that national championship game with next year's recruiting class. :spin

Very nice. However--he is no Geiggar.

^ CBF, whaz up with the whole Geiggar thing? I always see you mentioning his name. I mean, he was a solid safety no doubt, but he wasn't an all-american or anything. Was he just one of your personal favorites?

Well he had numerous heavy hits on sooners and aggies alike.
Also, he was sported the black eye things with little longhorns on them.
Also, he fast-sacked Reggie McNeal in his stupid aggie jersey
He was the typical dominant UT Strong Safety. If we had a Geiggar every year, we'd have broken Dwayne Jarrett's collarbone.
This new guy should be bad ass though...I want Texas to be a hardcore traditional traditional defensive team with numerous running back and ball control options.

Let's not forget Geiggar at the 2001 Big 12 Championship, I was near tears at the end of that game. But that was a bonehead play on his part, but he had a great career overall.

Nothing my boy Geiggar did could possibly outweigh the sheer travesty and abomination that was Chris Simms

If you are interested in Texas Longhorn recruiting www.hornfans.com always has the latest news and rumors on their recruiting messageaboard. It provides a Longhorn football fix during the offseason.

^ I gotta tell ya, I really like the makeup of this class so far. Four recruits will be on campus in the Spring, Buck Burnette (OL 6'3/290lbs), Greg Smith (TE 6'5/230lbs), Jevan Snead (QB 6'3/205lbs) and probably the star of our recruiting class, Sergio Kindle (LB 6'4/225lbs/4.5 40 time). Hopefully, arriving early will help Jevan get familiarized with our system, should be a great QB competition between him and Colt heading into 2-a-days in August.
One other kid I'm really looking forward to seeing is DE recruit Eddie Jones out of Kilgore. This kid could be really special and will be part of our changing of the guard at the DE position as Robison and Crowder wind down their careers at Texas and guys like Orakpo, E. Jones, L. Houston, B. Ellis and C. Brown all step up to see who gets PT.

Well I was at that game and both of those guys costs us a shot a the NC that year, but I think Miami would have killed us like they did the cornhuskers.

texas has strong verbals from 9 in the national top 100 class of 06 and top recruits for 07 have been asking to verbally commit already
signing day is feb 1 then you can compare classes
Texas is sitting fat down south though
on the other hand A&M got a commit from michael goodsen from collins kliene, this is a pretty nice commit for the aggys because their recruiting class this year was not looking very strong at all
still not aggy calibur, they have been getting good talent is recent years

Come on bro...Mr. Google says Chris Simms had 3 INT's....Geiggar had zero.
:lol
I can't wait for Colt McCoy to pull a daruis mcrary on the stupid gutless ags next season
Mookie--only 9 of the top 100? How is that good

Remember the score was 36-30 cu when Geiggar roughed the kicker in one of the stupidest plays in Texas history. Simms was out of the game and "Hurt", and Major could have pulled it off if Phil does not try and block the kick.
If you remember Major was on fire in the 3rd and 4th quarter and Phil killed any chance of a win by roughing the damn kicker. What a DUMBASS trying to block the kick.

sorta... both of our starting safeties will be gone next season (darnell bing left early and scott ware graduated). there are three backups, but one was out 3/4 of the season with a knee injury and the other two are good at best. there is a big chance that josh pinkard could move back to safety, but even then there would be an opening. we got a few 5-star recruits (the #1, 3 and 4 safeties according to scout), but none of them are a lock to start... although antwine perez, who had a few big hits in the all-american game, graduated early and enrolled this semester, but who knows. it is definitely up for grabs. hopefully, they can all live up to their ranking or close to it.
obviously, I would love for sc to get mouton, but as long as he goes to the right place then that's okay. i'm looking forward to signing day next week... unfortunately it will be awhile before these kids can prove it on the field.

no lie
my chode is bursting with excitement for the next season already
I just got back from borders and they had like 6 different magazines of Longhorn and Vince lore...why does the nfl have to suck so bad

Is this a serious question?
Because there are 117 Division I schools - and a lot of teams competing for these players.

I am looking at the Texas recuits on Rivals.
This Greg Smith guy TE played at Montgomery.
I used to play against Montgomery when I went to Willis HS like 6 years ago. They must have got some decent talent because we would whip Montgomery's ass. But Willis also has went down in talent, obviously....cause i'm not there :lol

^ No doubt! :lol
Yeah, Greg Smith is a Spring enrollment guy, also have another TE recruit, Britt Mitchell out of Kilgore coming in as well. With David Thomas leaving (and man are we gonna miss his sure hands next season), there is going to be a big time competition at the TE spot. A guess alot of people are big on J. Finley, but you've also got to consider Tweedie, Ulman and then the 2 TE recurits we have coming in as well. I know that Finley has big time athletic skills, but can he also block at the D1 level? Should be interesting to watch come spring drills and pre-season 2-a-days.

Yeah Finley could be a WR or TE.

can you imagine the team next year if everyone stayed?
they would be regulatory
they need a good class because the freshman class this year didnt turn out so great, missed out on miles (texas will still be slim at wing next year) basically 1 player in aj abrhams (though he lacks puberty) even CONNER was the last years class, jd lewis can shoot but cant crack the rotation and winder -the other transfer cant either

Ok, national signing day for college football. First off, a big hardy and warm laugh at a&m. Michael Morgan, one of the best LB'/DE's in the state, made a late minute change in his commit and switched over to USC, way to go Michael! As for UT, we got faxes in from all 25 of our commits, no last minute surprises for us this year (go to hell Perriloux!). The only guy we're waiting on is Jonas Mouton who said he will announce his decision tonight, it's down to us and Michigan.
UT is in pretty solid position with this kid, seeing that his mother and brother both live in Austin. Hopefully he chooses UT, he would really be the cherry on the top of this recruiting class. If you guys remember, the last couple kids we've gotten out of California (Brian Westbrook, Ricky Williams) worked out pretty well, hopefully this kid will be the same. Now it's time to start working on 2007 commits, early word from Orangebloods is that UT is in pretty strong with 7 of the top 10 Juniors in the state. Keep up the good work Mac! :smokin
