For who or what? His trade value is not very high right now.

Just think of him as a taller, more overpaid version of Steve Kerr.
It'll help you sleep at night.

It'll help you sleep at night. But Barry is not as clutch as Kerr was.

no friggin way...ppl seem to forget how brent came through in the playoffs...when it REALLY counts. lets not sleep on him just yet. he has yet to f*ck up a playoff series for us. until he does, lets keep the "trade brent" threads down a bit.

If you want to trade Barry, be prepared to take back a bad contract. His contract isn't obscene, but it's large enough that nobody is going to want to pay him that much for his limited contributions. So to trade him, the Spurs would likely need to take back a bad contract.
No thanks.
He can be useful in the regular season, it's just of a matter of seeing if he actually will be useful.

Barry is just fine. Not perfect...but, good in his role.

I like Barry and I think he can help us but he will likely be traded soon.
We sign him as the first swingman from the bench and even to play some PG (Beno was a rookie). He was our vet shooter.
Now he is the 4th swingman, we have 2 good backup at the PG spot and we have NVE, Finley and Horry as clutch shooters.
Will Peter Holt agree to spend $10M over the next 2 years for a 4th swingman? I don't think so.
Barry will be traded, not for a better player but for a cheaper one. I think too that's Barry has some trade value : he is not that overpaid and there is a market for this kind of players. Spurs can trade him without taking back a bad contract or without giving up too much things in addition of Barry. (contrary to the two first round draft pick in the Malik trade)

There's no place for Stephen Jackson here. If the Spurs didn't have Finley, then I'd do that deal.

The pacers I'd like to have in a Spurs uni is Foster : husstle, rebounding, local boy but maybe tii luch injuries.
If Spurs goal is to save money, Barry for jackson don't make sense.

i'd just be down with trading barry. he's made some nice passes and shot well during one game against the suns in the playoffs (who the spurs nearly swept and that one game was the first one), but saying he hasn't messed up any series also applies to beno and rasho. i'm surprised people aren't down with bringing steven jackson back. i didn't like the guy in particular but he seems to have a more reliable shot.

Me and a fellow aussie m8 discussed the fate of DeMarr Johnson. He's really getting bagged by Karl. I'd hate to lose this potential but he needs PT. If he was to go we both agree he'd be perfect for the Spurs.
Not saying we can trade or anything (I don't know the contract numbers off-hand but it should be un-doeable).
What do you think of DJ?
easjer
02-02-2006, 12:08 PM
Nope. Barry has done a good job for us, and while his play is not spectacular, he is cool and levelheaded on the floor, keeps things moving, and makes nice shots when he takes them. He's stepped up big when it really counted, and given the droughts we've seen with the much heralded Van Ex, and also the dear Mr. Finley, I can't see what having another good shooter can hurt, even if he doesn't shoot as much as fans might like.
And the thought of that whiny bitch Jax back here, Mr. Famine or Feast, gives me chills (not in a good way) and heartburn at the same time.

I agree that Brent passes up a lot of open shots. I don't know why. If anything he needs to take more shots. Look at Van Exel. He isn't as good of a shooter like Brent, but sure doesn't hesitate to take one and that's what I like about Van Exel. I can't stand when he misses when there is no one under the basket, but I admire him at the same time for having the guts to take it. Barry needs to be more like Van Exel on that part.

Oooo, I disagree, spurjur. I absolutely hate that about Van Ex. He has such bizarre shot selection it boggles my mind. I would like Brent to take more, but not as many as Van Ex does. But that's just my opinion.
I think it's funny how differently fans of the same team can see things sometimes.

I like DJ. He is young, long and with some upside.
Conderning a trade, Barry for DJ and Lenard should work contract wise.

Considering Manus penchant to get hurt and Finleys age, trading away our only other experienced 2 is a pretty stupid idea. Noone is going to take on his contract anyway unless weed have some young cheap talent to send as well.

Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson from Seattle....for Barry.
Seattle is in desperate need of another back up point guard, and Barry ran the pt there for 2 years...

trade rasho+barry to hawks for childress and zaza, seems like a fair deal to me, they get a legit pg and a solid center.
