no offense to Manu but, I'd take Tony over him this yr. Tony deserves it.

and TMac starting over KG? whoaa!
But I'm not surprised Tmac leads the votes.

BTW, when Timmy had more votes than KG once, KG got so excited in the All-Star, played well and won the MVP.
There was one media saying maybe it was the 2nd place of West forwards votes that gave the extra energy:lol

As far as I know it's not the next leader in votes, it's a coaches' decision. Jermaine still has to go to the All-Star game and participate in all the media stuff, etc.

TMTTRIO

Manu's been too injury prone this year while Tony's had an awesome season so far. At least it'll be a good time for Manu to get 100% healed and ready for the second part of this season. We're going to need him ready for the playoffs instead.

I think the coaches vote for the next 7, and then from that bunch, a replacement is selected and the Commissioner is then permitted to select a 13th player. I seem to recall a few years ago that a similar situation allowed Vlade Divac to play in the All-Star Game. Someone got hurt and Stern was permitted to choose a replacement. He may be guided by who the fans voted for, or who the players voted for, but I think it's Stern's decision.

Yes. But I think that's the point. The replacement for Jermaine won't be Rasheed, who is the next-highest vote getter; the replacement starter will be one of the forwards voted-in by the coaches -- if Rasheed is voted in by the coaches, he'll probably start. If Rasheed isn't voted in by the coaches, Stern might appoint him to the All-Star team anyway.

Don't forget, though, that Commissioner Stern will be selecting a player to replace the injured Jermaine O'Neal after the reserves are chosen. East coach Flip Saunders will decide who actually starts in O'Neal's place, but Le Commish has the final say when it comes to filling out the roster.

Swap Pau with Brand and name Pau as backup center.

Carmelo is getting jobbed, but oh well. He's not better than any single player mentioned, nor had the impact.

If someone of the starters or reserves sits out, then I see Carmelo being named.

I'd make Parker and Ray Allen the two guards with either Davis or Richardson being the injury replacement.

No surprises here, if you've been looking at the voting. I think it's a disservice to the West list T-Mac as a forward and not a guard because T-Mac should a reserve, and KG should be starting. If it's not T-Mac, then Ray Allen's probably the best shooting guard out west in terms of the individual players. He doesn't deserve it this season over the forwards like Pau Gasol, Elton Brand, and Shawn Marion. That extra forward spot would come closer to assuring all of them make it.

This is exactly how I thought the voting would go down as soon as I saw the ballot. I expect Tony Parker to be named as a reserve for the West, Billups, Hamilton, and Ben Wallace to be named in the East.

polandprzem

if only Yao's not voted as starter on center we could have Tim playing center then include KG, Brand, & Dirk as forwards in the West.

but you just can't stop the billion people from China to vote for their idol. then, snubbing Yao when Houston's hosting this event.

well, good luck to Tony Parker.

and Billups, too! they deserve the All-Star recognition

BTW, Pops said he'll try to talk to AJ to give Tim limited minutes in the All-Star game(again).

his exact words were:

Popovich doesn't have any worries about Johnson trying to tire Duncan in the game.

Johnson "knows I know where he lives," Popovich said, laughing, "so he won't try to overplay Timmy."

JMarkJohns

All deserve it, but because Camby's missed a significant amount of the season, I'd say he's passed over.

Nash, Parker
Bryant, Allen
McGrady, Marion
Duncan, Brand, Dirk, Garnett
Yao, Pau

If any frontcourt player gets injured or sits out, then Carmelo gets the spot. If any guard goes out, then I think Richardson, Davis or Bibby gets the spot. Of the three, I think Bibby is the most deserving from a numbers standpoint.

Wow, I just went through this discussion on a Pistons board; I thought the rules were common knowledge. The Commish appoints a replacement. Stern doesn't have to choose another guard, he doesn't work off of the fan voting. Steve Nash will still be listed as a part of the 2006 All-Star team, even though he didn't play. Avery Johnson would choose who would start in Nash's place.

Recent replacements:

Elton Brand for Shaquille O'Neal in 2001-02.
Antonio Davis for Theo Ratliff in 2000-01.
Latrell Sprewell for Grant Hill in 2000-01.

Gutsy call on Carmelo over KG. It should probably be that way, I just don't think Carmelo is to the point where he can knock out an MVP from an All-Star game.

Oh how I wish China and Houston didn't have thir heads up their asses and fingers on the vote button in reguards to Yao. McGrady has played more and better when playing, so I'll excuse it, but Yao, this year, is a joke. He's missed close to half the season and is not better than Pau. Switch Duncan to center, and add Carmelo as the extra forward. Oh well...

C - Pau Gasol :tu

..before i forget, may i know how many vacant spots they need to fill in for each WC/EC teams?

2 Guards, 2 Forwards, 1 center, and 2 wild cards (any position).

In the East, Jermaine O'Neal definitely has to be replaced; he will not play. Allen Iverson may have to sit out, but that's less certain.

Marcus Camby has the same problem as Manu, misssed a lot of games due to injury, has only started playing again in the past week or so.

... only 28 games played in 05/06 out of 48 Nuggets games.
He has certainly had All-Star numbers.
