Once again the Spurs are below the Mavs, which makes sense since the Mavs have that winning streak, but his smug comments about the Spurs seem to be a familiar sight now every monday.

And the Nets @ 5!?

I guess...

I'm w/ Ducks. I didn't expect the Pistons to still be #1.

Pistons getting too much respect. It should be #1 Mavs #2 Spurs #3 Pistons

Nah, not yet. If Detroit continues to struggle, then they should drop, but they shouldn't drop quite yet.

2 losses in a week while the spurs and mavs are red hot could bump you down to 3 I think.

that is good, so the other teams can break their minds

Mavs probably should be #1. I wouldn't have a problem with any of the three Mavs, Pistons, or Spurs as #1. Pistons did lose twice. Could bump them down. But, I understand why they weren't just yet.

Again, who cares about rankings?

It puts weight on the overall record but also strongly reflects on how the team is playing recently. TIMO the Pistons still belong at the top but it's gettin' tight.

Yeah, and what if it turns out to be something mundane like taking over the world.

I enjoy reading the power rankings for one reason, to get a quick reading of what is going on with other teams in the league. But I also think that everything is as it should be, pistons are still a much better team. Kind of surprises me to see how many people are arrogant enough to see this as the demise of the pistons or use it as a chance to bash them, as I remember we had a tough time not too long ago. The most important thing is that these losses are hopefully giving the spurs some fuel and a reason to play hard.

And Dallas did catch up to us and has had a better record since we had a good lead in the standings. Stein ahs always been consistant enough not to drop a team just because they dropped a game or two, he always tends to look at the bigger picture.

logically speaking it should be

1-Dallas
2-Detroit
3-SA

..... but rankings are stupid anyways

The Spurs haven't played well or consistently yet this year. They don't really belong in the top 5 at this point. Their record doesn't mean anything. Dallas is playing way better right now.

The guy that does the rankings still called the Spurs to win again. I don't think he's changed that part yet.

With Dallas sitting on an 11-game streak, and the Spurs 6 in row (incl. 4 on the road), and the Pistons only 2.5 games up, I was pretty surprised to see Stein keep the Pistons at #1. Wouldn't have done that, myself, but I guess he's the expert. :spin

Ummmm ... just because the Spurs are not #1 every week of the regular season, it doesn't mean the media doesn't respect them. I'm pretty sure most experts still predict that the Spurs will be in the NBA Finals. Last time I checked, the majority of ESPN analysts still predict Spurs winning the championship.

And, after winning three titles in seven years and having the same core players as last year's championship team, I'm pretty sure no one will be surprised if the Spurs get back to the Finals and even win another title. EVERYONE will know what "hit them."

The "underdog" or underestimated role does not work for a three time defending NBA championship team. I'm sorry. It just doesn't.

"they won't know what hit them"

Ummmmm ok ...
