Defensive Player of the First Half
Bruce Bowen – It's time Bowen won this award, isn't it? His tenacious perimeter defense has frustrated opposing players for years, and it is a key to the Spurs' defensive system. His job is to funnel his man to the baseline and into the waiting arms of Tim Duncan and company. Bowen does much more than that. He is like a shutdown cornerback in football who takes one side of the field away. If you are trying to slow down a hot perimeter player, there is no better choice for a defender than Bowen.

Last year I argued against picking Bowen because Big Ben was cheated out of the 03-04 award by his statistics falling because the Pistons were so dominant, he was on the floor for 30 minutes a game in the last 30.

But it is time to reward the best perimeter defender in the league in probably his last legitimate year of being able to win this award (the man will be 35-years-old by the end of the Finals).

Pistons fans are agreeing it's time for Ben Wallace to take a year off from this award.

Phil Jackson has one Coach of the Year Award, Larry Brown has two. He's being measured against the expectations for his team. No one expected (outside Detroit) that the Pistons would challenge for 70 wins. No one expected the Suns to pick up where they left off after losing Amare Stoudemire in the preseason. And the list goes on and on. The Spurs are expected to contend, so in short, no, people aren't going to vote for him as the best coach.

Boris Diaw wasn't even on for "Breakthrough Performance" so I can't say this holds an water. Diaw is averaging 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5+ assists. There's like two other players that have straight across the board averages like that.

Mo Williams is the 6th man of the year no question. I dont know why he wasnt one of the people listed.
