same here, stupid MC trees

Cedar: Midwinter Allergies If you live in Texas, and you have allergies, you probably suffer from cedar fever - the dreaded allergy symptoms brought on by the pollinating cedar tree each winter. Despite the name, you don't actually get a fever. Instead you get itchy, watery eyes; runny nose; and sneezing.

lucky us :rolleyes

Close: Depomedrol; Kenalog is pretty good too as a depot steroid.

Chlortrimeton or CTM, tons of fluids, tylenol or ibuprofen for fever/aches. Aleve is good but causes a bit more drowsiness. There are other antihistamines out there too, but I go for the least $$$ for my folks. Non drowsy formulations, use Claritin.

And NO, you do NOT have an infection that needs antibiotics, ok? So don't go there. Like spurs=bling says...DAMN THIS Mountain Cedar! With the dry conditions, the MC is budding in great amounts and killing us, especially as these winds have come in.

The sad thing is, they are just starting!

I've never had allergies until I moved here from Corpus. I've been getting crazy headaches and nose bleeds. I guess it's the massive amounts of cedar in the air. Fucking shit sucks. God damn trees fucking everything up.

PICKING! Get your FRICKING FINGERS OUT OF YOUR NOSE!

Hey, I know you are not picking, I am joshing you (but I am honest about the #1 cause...have to consider all ages...and children pick alot).

Dry air against the nasal tissues and the inflammation of the blood vessels in Kiesselbach's plexus (you can look it up) lead to the epistaxis.

Keep the tissues moist with saline nasal spray and drink lots of fluids.

Use topical nasal decongestants no more than 5 days straight (I usually rx 2x a day, 3 days on, 3 days off, 3 days on).

HANDWASHING CRUCIAL!

Be healthy!

I Just Came From The Doctor's Office Like One Hour Ago For This Because Not Until Like Half A Year Ago Did I Start Sneezing And Having Runny Nose. He Said It Was Allergies And Recommended Clarintin. My Nose Has Bled Lately And I Never Use To Suffer From That.

We bought a little over an acre out near Smithson Valley High School last year and when I had the guy come in to mulch up the trees and clear the land, I told him I did not want to see a single cedar left standing. He kept telling me I had some beautiful cedars out there. I said "MULCH". I only wanted to keep the Oak trees. I am allergic to those too but not nearly as bad as the cedar.
