View Full Version : So I am interviewing with Microsoft on Wednesday...

Aggie Hoopsfan

And the last name of the first guy I have to interview with is Scola.

Do you think I should open it up by asking him if he and Luis are related? :lol

Aggie Hoopsfan

I'll agree with you there, but the devil pays very well :bling

Don't do it directly.

First, casually find out if he's a Spurs fan. This could be done a number of ways, including wearing a Spurs tie (If you don't have one, you are not a true Spurs fan). If he is, just start calling him "Luis" for the rest of the interview. He won't have the balls to correct you, so wait until he gets the joke.

I still don't understand all the hate for Microsoft. I guess when you're on top..everybody wants to bring you down.

Let's see...

* Anti-competitive business practices

* Buys out threats, if they can't they just rip off the code

* Anytime anyone comes out with anything innovative, they steal it, make it a Windows feature, put the company out of business

* All their sorry ass proprietary formats that they won't let anyone else provide readers for

* The tag team of XP and IE are probably the most insecure pieces of shit software ever made

* 75% of all email is Spam. 90% of computers connected to the Internet have Spyware on them. MS has done nothing to deal with either of these problems, despite claiming to be the industry leader.

In short, they lie, they cheat, they steal, and they make shitty products. Gee, why would people ever dislike them?

About the only quality products they make are keyboards and mice.

Can't wait for the Google OS to roll out. Fuck Microsoft.

:spin

Aggie Hoopsfan
02-12-2006, 06:24 PM
The way I look at it...

* I won't be working on XP or Vista

* I won't be working on anything related to email

* I won't be working on anything related to IE

* I will be working on something completely new that no one else has on the market right now

Yeah I know, those are weak, but Big Brother is calling :lol

what will u be doing then?

Working on a new software project, something that isn't out there right now (at least, to the best of my research) in any form.

I had to sign a NDA prior to getting the interview, so I can't even talk about it :/

Na it's no sellout. They are good solid company.

Vista has a pixel shader / GPU driven 3d interface and directX 10 API's.

As far as Microsoft they just have a bad rap from people that don't know anything about computing. And no browsing a website or using a forum is not proof of guruship.

The Intel X86 instruction set has been public for years. You can order the books for it from Intel. What does that mean? Means that all these years anyone could of got off there lazy ass and wrote some new OS's. But they didn't.. Linix is a port of existing UNIX. Mac well.. they went X86 so they lost the war but they try to make commercials that lie about there loss.

Aggie Hoopsfan
02-12-2006, 06:52 PM
Real employee. Actually the product I'd be working on is internal, but I could easily see it going public down the road.

I feel like the position is something I'm not quite ready for yet experience wise, but I'm going to give it a shot. They obviously saw something they liked to even invite me to Seattle...

AHF,

I wish you the best!

Thanks!

Mac well.. they went X86 so they lost the war but they try to make commercials that lie about there loss.

GNU/Linux is no port of UNIX. It's a complete re-write, and SCO is full of shit. Microsoft was great in the DOS days when they produced an affordable operating system for people who didn't need and could not afford a UNIX, but now they're jerking everyone around for $300 to have a buggy, bloated piece of software they don't own. Not that Linux is great on the desktop right now either... it's a joke how many stupid distros there are and how much they all vary. If Apple would drop their requirement that people use Apple hardware to run OSX I'm sure it would take a lot of Windows share since it has good hardware support and many fewer security holes.

Microsoft sucks because they don't try to make their software work well... it seems like they focus on adding stupid features that they can market instead of making the base product decent to begin with. Perhaps they should thoroughly and consistently audit their code the way OpenBSD does. Lord knows Bill has the money to do it.

Yep, Texas A&M. Really, I don't see anything that special about my resume. I guess that's part of some of the intrigue. The job description is way over my head, but they see something in there they like to show this amount of interest.

I'm just along for the ride at this point, really. I actually work in IT, but I'm working in an implementation specialist role right now. This job would be lead project development stuff.

Right now I'm treating it as a free trip to Seattle and a chance to see how I measure up, anything else (like the job) is a bonus.

02-16-2006, 10:32 AM
Microsoft succeeded by making affordable software for affordable computers that was just good enough to get something done. One major problem has been that security and quality have been sacrificed for convenience, but all the security and quality in the world is no good if people can't use it. Another major problem is their monopoly status and their tendency to make you into a Microsoft junkie.

I like Linux myself, but you have to have a clue to use it effectively.
