Garnett > Duncan.

Yes, Tim Legler, you were wrong. There is no way that Kevin Garnett should have been left off of the All-Star team. It should not matter how his team is doing because he is doing everything in his power to get them wins. Who's more valuable and more of an All-Star, the player that gets you 55-60 wins instead of 45-50 (a la the Spurs with and without Duncan) or a player that gets you 40-45 wins instead of 10-15 (a la the Wolves with and without Garnett)?

Kevin Garnett, MVL (most valuable loser)

There is no argument where a player that lost his team would get more merit than a guy who made himself expendable.

The Spurs would not win 50 games without Duncan. Part of the reason why the Spurs play so well without Duncan is that they know he is coming back. This allows them to justify defeat if they lose, and keep their spirits up. Morale would be terrible without him for an entire season.

The problem is that people view these game improvements as linear, as if going from 15 to 25 games is as difficult to go from 60 to 70 wins. It has showed that this is not the case, but then people always say how Garnett took a non-playoff team and made it a 45-50 win team.
Also, who is to say that Duncan can't do the same? I do know for a fact that the 2003 team was supposed to be in rebuilding mode, and yet, for some reason, won the championship. I would have guessed that that team w/o Duncan was perhaps a 45 win team, max, and to take it to a championship team? I am not sure if people understood the difficulty of that.

Parker and Ginobili have done so much for San Antonio this year that it is a possilbility that Duncan=Garnett.

You can put up all the numbers in the world and still not be a winner.
