ATLANTA -- Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller remains day-to-day after sitting out Saturday's game in Atlanta.

Miller suffered soft tissue damage in his lower back near his tailbone while warming up for Friday's home opener with Milwaukee. He played 20 minutes that night, but had to leave the game in the third period.

He accompanied the team to Atlanta and worked out on the court well before tipoff in practice gear, but watched the game in street clothes.

"He's out until we're not sure when," coach Rick Carlisle said. "We hope he can come back on Tuesday."

Jones, Foster start

Carlisle adjusted his starting lineup Saturday. Fred Jones replaced Miller and Jeff Foster took Scot Pollard's place at center.

Carlisle could have moved Ron Artest to shooting guard and started Al Harrington at forward, but he wanted to keep Harrington in reserve for a potential lift off the bench.

He started Foster as a defensive matchup against Atlanta center Theo Ratliff.

"I just like what he's done when he's been in there," Carlisle said of Foster. "With their lineup, I think it makes sense."

Foster finished with six points, eight rebounds and four steals in 24 minutes. Pollard came off the bench to score one point and grab five rebounds in 15 minutes.

Jones hit 7-of-11 shots, including one of the biggest in overtime. His 22-footer with 2:22 left bounded high off the rim and fell through, providing a five-point lead.

"When it came back through, there was a sigh of relief," he said.

Carlisle said neither change would necessarily last beyond Saturday's game.

"We'll see how it goes," he said. "We're a long way from having it figured out."

Carlisle also adjusted his substitution pattern, playing Anthony Johnson as the backup point guard instead of Jamaal Tinsley.

Tinsley did not play by coach's decision for the first time in his career.
