First of all, a big FAT :flipoff to the Spurs for losing the only game I get to see them live in! :lol

Seriously though, it was very, very cool to see the Spurs in person. I hadn't gotten to go last year because I had a midterm or something the next day. So first, my friends and I went to the Four Seasons where the Spurs were staying at, hoping to get some pics and autographs. I was actually surprised to see that there was a good group of other fellow Spurs fans waiting there for them also. Unfortunately, we got there a little late and so I only got to see Manu and Nazr rush by. Manu was dressed as if he were in Alaska, wearing like 5 layers of clothing a knit hat and hoodie. I guess he's not brave enough for East cold weather :)

We got to the game, we immediately went to the Spurs side, where the players were coming out of the tunnel. Brent Barry was the only one out, practicing and shooting 3 pointers. Then PJ Carlisimo came by, and just because I was desperate to completely play the part of the groupie, I asked for his autograph! :lol He seems to have lost a lot of weight, I always thought he was fatter, maybe the camera adds 10 pounds or something.

Then, MANU came out. :wow :wow I'm telling you, I almost just about fainted, he was right there in front of me! Manu looked really, really skinny, but I'm loving the new haircut! There must have been like 20 little kids all dressed in Manu jerseys who ran to get his autograph. Of course, I was right there with them :oops. Manu was really cool about it, and took a good 5 minutes just signed everyone's autograph. It was really cute, this one little kid had a whole album, filled with his Spurs basketball star cards collection, he'd managed to get every Spurs player to sign it too!

I also got to see Horry, he was practicing Manu-Like half court shots, but missing them badly. However, he didn't stop to sign any autographs. Some little 10 year old screamed "Bastard!" to him as he rushed into the tunnel. :lol

As for the game, I was really suprised to see how many Spurs fans there were in Philly. I overheard one couple saying they flew in from San Antonio just to see the game! There was also this 3 group of guys, each wearing a Parker, Duncan, and Ginobili jersey which I thought was cute.

As for the game, let's just say my voice is a little sore this morning from all the screaming I did. Here's my player by player analysis (for those of you who aren't bored with this long post already :))

Duncan--Had a bad game. Mainly because he got out of it in the first quarter when he got a ticky-tack call from the ref, he must have spent a good 5 minutes just arguing with the ref during the time-out. I noticed Tim did that a lot throughout the game.

Parker--Even though I didn't get his autograph, it was worth it just seeing him play live! Parker was keeping us in the game the first half. But then when Mo Cheeks made a surpisingly smart move (which I didn't think he had in him), he moved Igodala to Parker, he was pretty much rendered scoreless in the second half. However, to his credit, Parker would have had a lot of great assists then, if the other players managed to make their shots. Also, he had a few too many TO's and his defense on AI wasn't that great.

Bruce--Loved his defense on A.I! I noticed that Bruce has this habit of wiping of the soles off his shoes during every time out or break. He must have done it at least 12 times, my last count :)

Rasho, Brent- Barely noticed they were there.

Nazr--Can I just say that despite the Boxscore, I wasn't that impressed with Nazr last night? He sets the WORST possible screens in the world for Parker and Ginobili, and isn't that supposed to be like the easiest thing to do in basketball? I counted at least 3 occasions where Parker yelled at him to get in the right position, 2 occasions where Duncan yelled at him to get in the right position, and even 1 occasion where Manu yelled at him to get in the right position! :lol Oh and he has the worst passing skills ever, not to mention worse butterfingers than Malik!

Beno--Looked a little immature compared to the other guys. During the Spurs shootaround or timeouts, you'd just see him jumping around there like he was a little kid, throwing his towel or whatever. Oh, and he's VERY touchy-feely with the players I noticed! :lol

Marks--Should get an award for being the Spurs personal cheerleader :tu

All in all, a game I thought would be a Spurs blowout ended up being a loss. At least I got to see the Spurs in OT though. And of course, everyone around me started yelling and screaming and booing me towards the end when the Spurs were losing. So, I felt the need to quickly put on my jacket and cover up my Spurs shirt. I know, I know I'm a wuss. :depressed

Go Spurs!! :)

Great analysis.

Admit it- you thought Beno was adorable.

I can't wait to see your pics. I hope you remembered Rasho long enough to get at least one of him.

Is it my fault that my camera loves Rasho & Beno. :D It also loves Gino and Timmy.

I always bring lots of film and use it all- on everybody. :elephant

Despite his numbers I didn't want to say it either....but... Nazr has a tendency to kill the Spurs' momentum runs. I don't know how that happens to him.

It just seemed as though whenever we wanted to put the nail on the coffin, Nazr would drop a pass, or fumble the ball long enough for his man to front him and hence lose his positional advantage, or simply commit a silly foul....

20 rebounds though.... can't argue with those numbers.

Beno-- Oh, and he's VERY touchy-feely with the players I noticed! :lol
:lol :lol i noticed that, there was one point during a timeout where van exel came to the outskirt of the huddle and beno moved up next to him to talk to him and tell him good job, then when beno walked away he gave nick a little pinch on the side.... van exel just stared at him as beno walked away

I also thought i saw Duncan get pissed AS HELL at a towell boy, i could be mistaken, but i thought i saw a towell boy throw a towell in duncans face during a timeout (towards the end of regulation or during ot, i cant remember) But duncan stared at that kid the WHOLE TIMEOUT, he looked pissed, but again, i could be mistaken

Yeah, it's surprising how thin the guys are in real life. I mean even Pop isn't as heavy as he looks on the teli. I saw the guys out here in Santa Monica a couple of years ago and Manu is very generous with his time. He isn't like Horry, who barely acknowledges you.

Rasho should play in that OT. Then we wouldn't have lost it.

I think most NBA players don't set good screens because they are lazy. They just kinda put their self out there and run off. Atleast that is my opinion on that. I like to set screens, as it helps my teammates and you can get the person good if right :lol

I was at the game, and I can't agree more with this one:

First of all, a big FAT to the Spurs for losing the only game I get to see them live in!

Manu shot poorly, but had 8 assists, TP tore it up, Nazr was an animal.

AI and Iggy were outstanding.

I was pissed because Manu didn't come out early to warm up. Barry warm up by himself (as usual) and then Horry came out, decided to not play.

It was really cute, this one little kid had a whole album, filled with his Spurs basketball star cards collection, he'd managed to get every Spurs player to sign it too!

I saw that kid too, lucky bastard. :lol

I wasn't surprised in the number of Spurs fans, I think there might have been even more last season, but there were a lot of Argentines at this game. I sat directly behind an Argentinean couple, both wearing Argentina jerseys (soccer, not basketball).

1Parker1, I remeber seeing PJ Carlesimo signing an autograph near the floor, but I didn't see the person...

Speaking of Beno being immature, did you see Beno and Manu playing some kind of 3 point game in their warmups right behind the middle of the 3-point arc??? Manu finally won it, but they were goin at it for like 5 minutes.

I'm tellin' folks.... Manu is one down to earth player.... for a star player in the league this is usually not the norm. But for Manu... it is who he is.

I agree. He's one of the most sincere, down to earth players I've ever talked to. He actually looks in your eyes if you are asking him a question and gives you an honest answer. He's friendly to everyone. I can't imagine him ever saying No to anyone asking for an autograph.

Few words on Beno- Beno plays the three-point game before every game, always has, sometimes even with Tim- most often with Tony or Van Exel. And yes, he is touchy-feely, especially with Brent.

As for setting screens, Rasho is one of the best on the team at it and he contributes to the penetration of Parker and Manu. It does not surprise me that Manu struggled more in a game in which Nazr played more. They each have their strengths but apparently no one ever taught Nazr WHERE or HOW to set a screen. I also said before- Nazr is more interested in waiting for an offensive rebound then stepping our and setting a screen for someone. Usually when I see Tony yelling at him, it is for him to set a screen. Part of the reason Nazr can grab more offensive rebounds is because the team shoots more poorly when he is in there, plus he gets an O board everytime he gets the ball back after his shot gets blocked. :lol

I like to set screens, as it helps my teammates and you can get the person good if right :lol
Rasho got someone pretty good in the second quarter last night, but people who watch the ball miss it.
