Omar Cook was thought to have no long range shot. Guess they didn’t tell the Chicago Bulls that. Cook impressed Coach Rick Carlisle as well as his teammates; by scoring 13 pts in the Pacers pre-season opening night win over the Chicago Bulls 96-82 at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Al Harrington led the Pacers with 18 points, and 7 rebounds, in a game that at first looked like a Bulls blow out. The Pacers came out of the gate sluggish, at times tossing air balls time and time again. But this is the Chicago Bulls, and eventually the Pacers found their game and manage to narrow the deficit down to four at 48-44 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Pacers come out running. A quick 14-0 run put the Bulls in the Pacers’ rear view for the rest of the night, but it was the shooting of Cook that impressed everyone.

Reggie Miller, coming off a disappointing 2002-2003 season, looks like he’s found his hustle once again, diving after loose balls like a rookie, Miller scored 10 points in only 21 minutes of playing time. Free Agent Scot Pollard made his Pacers debut with 8 points in limited time as well.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Pacers game without mentioning Jermaine O’Neal, who was his usual self, scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Ron Artest, played a lot minutes this evening as well, even picking up a technical foul in the third quarter. Other than the brief outburst, Artest kept his temper in check; scoring 9 points this evening.

Austin Croshere, looking to impress Carlisle and President Larry Bird, (who was in attendance tonight) played only four minutes, leaving the game with an apparent hamstring injury. More details about the severity of his injury should be known tomorrow.
