View Full Version : Good Chinese Food Near Bitters and 281?

Anybody know of any decent Chinese restaurants near the airport? I have been living in this area for a year, but I haven't found a decent place yet. I used to live over by Crossroads mall and I would go to Ding How, but now I need to find another place. A friend of mine recommended The Phoenix Room, but I didn't really care for the food.

Any suggestions?

Oh by the way, by good Chinese, I don't mean authentic Asian food. I mean someplace with good Lemon Chicken and Mongolian Beef.

No Lemon Chicken (only Honey Chicken) and kind of expensive, but I appreciate the attempt.

The only two Chinese restaurants we eat at are PF Chang's and Golden Wok. I don't eat lemon chicken, so I don't know who has it. :lol

Golden Wok is good, but it is too far to be part of my regular rotation.

PF Changs is good, but not the kind of Chinese food I am looking for.

Something in the Hung Fung's, China Latina, Ding How vein would be nice.

I only eat chinese food from HEB because there are not many chinese places here on the Southeast side. The old asian lady yells, "Only one dolla! Eggwole only one dolla!"

She is badass.

Oh yeah? Never heard of it, but I will certainly give it a shot.

Maybe this weekend.

Yeah, the Chinese food isn't too shabby at HEB.

There used to be a decent restaurant on the SE side called New China. It was on Goliad and wasn't bad. They moved to SE Military and the food went downhill.

There was also Lung Fung's on WW White, near Rigsby, but I don't know if they are still open.

Beijing. It's a block off of 281. Turn in off of Bitters where you would go to the Embassy Theaters, and it's on your left.

Wok Inn off of Grissom Rd. near Tezel Rd. on the northwest side.

Great lemon chicken (and lots) for 4-5 dollars.

People always say that it's the same ownership and same food. Maybe same ownership, but not even close to the same food. Pei Wei loads every dish with carrots and low quality meat.

I ate at Pei Wei one time and the food was delicious, but forgot what I ate. Went back and the food was no so good. If I could just remember what I ate the first time I would go back to Pei Wei and order it again.

We've eaten there only a couple times. Once here and once in another city (Denver?). We tried different dishes, but they were bad. Maybe they only have one good dish.

I did not like china sea one bit and I agree that Panda is better. However, try Buffet King on 1604 between Blanco and Stone Oak Blvd. Pricey so a coupon is nice to have.

It's not exactly 281 and Bitters, but for a short drive, Hsiu Yu on Broadway is pretty good and stays away from all of the exotic/Chinese fusion kinds of things -- pretty much straight-on traditional American-Chinese food.

It's on Broadway, but just inside 410.

I would try the following:

Bean Sprout- Its a good priced buffet across from North Star Mall-behind Jason's Deli.
China Inn- It is on NW Military (If you go watch the damn Castle Hills cops).

We finally went to PF Chang's and we were not impressed. Maybe because we've heard the raving reviews but it wasn't all that to me and for the cash we dropped....we won't be going back.

I work off of 281 & Bitters and the women here go to Pee-Wee's for lunch but I don't. Taste of Asia is okay. I've stuffed my face at the Panda buffet.
Tai Pai at West & Military is good too.

Yeah, I sometime go to HEB for a chinese bowl.

There is also that huge place called China Harbor (?) on the southbound access road of 281 just south of the 1604 turnaround. They have a humongous buffet and I am sure they would have both Lemon Chicken and Mongolian Beef.

Its amazing the difference in Chinese food between here and Dallas. Dallas/Plano had some good Chinese food. I use to go to a place off of Park and Legacy, I think it was......damn forgot the name. Their food was great, best Chinese food I've ever eaten. That place was always packed with Asian people.

Vashner

The food quality depends on several factors.
1. How much MSG they put in.
2. Cooks and staff attention to detail.
3. Sources for raw materials I.E. Vendors.

Because we have so many bases we have more oriental joints I bet. And 99% are NOT chinese. People mostly from Laos, Nam, etc.
It's like they have a system to start up and bring in more migrants.

AHF, noticed you live in Plano, know what place I'm talking about? It's been about about two yrs since I left Plano, but the name ended with Chinese bbq. They have the cooked ducks hanging in a heated display case when you walk in.

I loved their schechaun (spelling?) beef.

I would not trust anything "grand slam" to be oriental food. See the difference a few miles makes? Plano vs San Antonio 2 diff worlds.
