Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson will not be invited to play in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, according to a report in the Philadelphia Enquirer.

The paper cited that "two sources with knowledge of the information" said Iverson would not be one of the 22 NBA players selected to come to camp. That group will be trimmed down to 12 players for the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan prior to the '08 Olympics.

Iverson, a seven-time All-Star, ranks second in the NBA in scoring with 33 points per game.

Iverson expressed interest in playing to Jerry Colangelo, the managing director for USA basketball, during the 76ers' trip to Phoenix on Jan. 4, where Colangelo is the chairman and CEO.

Iverson was the leading scorer on the 2004 U.S. team that missed out on gold, scoring 13.8 points per game along with 27.1 minutes, also a team high. The U.S. went 3-2 in pool play before Argentina, led by Manu Ginobili, knocked off the U.S. 89-81 in the semifinal round. The team ended up with the bronze after defeating Lithuania 104-96.
