Seattle waives newly acquired Russell

March 1, 2006

SEATTLE (AP) -- Bryon Russell was waived by the SuperSonics on Wednesday, less than a week after he was acquired from Denver in a four-team, nine-player trade.

The 35-year-old forward was dealt by the Nuggets to Seattle along with guard Earl Watson and a second-round draft pick.

But Russell never reported to the Sonics. The 13-year veteran missed 53 games while with the Nuggets because of a cartilage tear in his right knee. Before Tuesday's game against the Hornets, Seattle coach Bob Hill said the team was leaning toward releasing Russell.

Russell spent his first nine seasons with Utah, and made stops in Washington and with the Los Angeles Lakers before going to Denver in 2004.
