So the mouth-on-arm-in-his-face (not a bite) was not the violation, but touching the ref was?

I'd think the two games are Saturday at home against Portland and Monday in LA against the Lakers.

Probably better that Horry be available for Tuesday night against the Clips.

There's no way you could fine him for pretending to bite, let alone suspend him. You aren't allowed to touch officials, period. It's perfectly sensible, if unfortunate for Spurs fans.

I don't think he thought about seriously biting Stackhouse. In my view it was a gesture of contempt, to show that Horry wasn't even remotely angry. It's saying "I'm in your head, but you aren't even worth the real estate in mine". I agree with you about the contact, though. I thought that he was a little rough with Baveta, even though they were clearly playing. If Horry had accidentally snapped Baveta's arm, it'd be a huge black eye for the league.

NEW YORK, March 3 – Robert Horry of the San Antonio Spurs has been suspended two games without pay for intentionally making physical contact with a game official and for his actions during an altercation with Dallas’ Jerry Stackhouse, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred with 1:02 remaining in the fourth period of the Spurs 98-89 win over the Mavericks at AT&T Center in San Antonio. Horry and Stackhouse were each assessed a personal and technical foul and, subsequently, Stackhouse’s foul has been upgraded by the League Office to a Flagrant Foul Penalty One.

Stackhouse has also been fined $30,000 for publicly criticizing the officials following the game.

Horry will serve his suspension tomorrow when the Spurs host the Portland Trail Blazers and on Monday, March 6 when the Spurs face the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

I think Horry got the bad end of this. Stackhouse started the altercation and Horry needed to vent his anger but should've done it to Stackhouse instead of the ref.

NBA fines Stackhouse $30K, suspends Horry

06:22 PM CST on Friday, March 3, 2006
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News

Mavericks guard Jerry Stackhouse was fined $30,000 by the NBA on Friday for his comments about referee Dick Bavetta after Thursday's game in San Antonio. But it's a small price to pay compared to Robert Horry's two-game suspension for his actions against Stackhouse.

Horry's suspension without pay was for making contact with a referee and for giving the appearance that he was going to bite Stackhouse's arm when the two were interlocked in a scramble under the basket.

"It's tough to come on the road in this environment and have to play agains the refs, too," Stackhouse said after Thursday's 98-89 loss to the Spurs. "[Expletive] Dick Bavetta. I'm tired of his [expletive]. It's like the game is about him. He just needs to call the game and call the fouls.

"It's like he didn't because we were up and he wanted to see them [the Spurs] come back."

Stackhouse was not suspended. However, his foul on Horry has been upgraded to a flagrant-1, the league announced.

Horry will serve his suspension Saturday and Monday when the Spurs face Portland and the Los Angeles Lakers.

the league has to adress what was seen on TV and is being talked about by the media somehow even though he didn't actually bite him.

That would explain the wording.

If Duncan got a game for accidentally knocking over Emperor Palpatine then Horry definitely deserves two for JUST his contact with Baveta.

The only other thing I saw was the fake bite, and I'd ask for a pic of Stack's arm before suspending a guy for that. I suppose they don't even want to give anyone the idea.

The thing I like most about Stackhouse is that he was used by us to get Rip away from Washington and MJ.

I just realized in the replay that he didn't even bite Stackhouses arm it was Jason Terry's and if you watch closely Terry goes running towards his end of the court yelling and pointing like "He bit me! He bit me!"

Horry might have hurt his own case on the one, Stack didn't comment on it but Horry said he "thought about biting him".

Yeah, how great of a trade was that? Stackhouse has always had talent, which is why he always gets another shot. He just isn't a good teammate, he has no impulse control and he evaporates or implodes in big situations, whichever is more damaging.

Not sure what game you were watching but in the game I was watching Horry grabbed the refs shoulder and gave him a little shake and as it was stated in an earlier post the league said it was for both contact with the ref and the altercation with Stack.

Stackhouse went down a couple notches in my eyes many years ago when he punched out (black eye for Laettner) teammate Christian Laettner.

Report: Pistons' Laettner, Stackhouse fight on plane

According to the article, Jerry Stackhouse (above) tenderized Christian Laettner's face. Ezra O. Shaw/Allsport

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Detroit Pistons Christian Laettner and Jerry Stackhouse got into a fight aboard the team plane while returning from a game at Charlotte, a newspaper said Friday.

Team spokesman Matt Dobek Friday called the report a fabrication.

"I was on the plane and nothing happened," Dobek said.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Laettner and Stackhouse apparently were involved in a card game that got out of hand and threw punches before the scuffle was broken up.

"I couldn't believe it. I looked up and they were going at it, throwing blows. I wasn't about to get in the middle of it," one player who was not identified told the newspaper.

One unidentified source said the players were arguing over $2,000, and Stackhouse landed some blows to Laettner's face. The Pistons intend to ban card games on future flights, the Free Press said.

The contact with an official thing is weak. I've seen Horry put his arm around Bevetta before after a hard foul, and nothing came of it.

Pretty weak shit from the league as usual, although I'm glad to see Stack's foul upgraded to a flagrant.

This is not all bad. The spurs will remember this incident whenever they play Dallas again this season. This should serve as enough motivation to blow them out in the April game and sweep their ass in the 2nd round.

I can't wait to see that whining bitch of an owner with his head in his hands as he contemplates good fishing spots for his overrated team.

at least the NBA suspended Horry for only 2 games(shld be 1, IMO).

then he's available to play vs the LA Clippers. We need help for Duncan. Margette is back, played Friday night for the first time in 39 games when he returned from a foot injury in the Los Angeles Clippers' game at Utah.

Maggette had not played since Dec. 5 against Miami, when he separated a ligament in his left foot.

Maggette averaged 21.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13 games this season.
