Go to downloads.com and get Ad Aware (the Lavasoft version) and Spybot ... I think those are still free and some of the best.

Good luck!

You can probably get SpySweeper for 10 bucks on Ebay. It's by far the best.

eTrust internet security form computer associates.
had it for a 1yr free trail.
never had anything infected or invaded or crashed during the one year so we went ahead and paid for the re-up last month.

AVG resident antivirus (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1)

Ad-Aware spyware scanner (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)

Spybot spyware scanner (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)

House Call online virus/spyware scanner (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)

Use them all.

Looks like Microsoft is beta testing a new antispyware program. Their programs are nice because they update and run automatically like antivirus programs.

Still free. (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx)

I'm pissed that I downloaded that. Beta 1 was way better. I liked that "Track Eraser" function.

Do what Chump said in #8. But before you do, right click on My Computer and go to Properties-> System Restore, and turn it off.

Otherwise, when all that shit that you clean out will come back the next time you have to reboot your computer.

Good point AHF, that's something Microsoft and all the AV companies should stress.

I use Ad-Aware and Avast Antivirus, and have never had a problem. Avast is really good because it scans basically everything that passes through your system (files, internet traffic, instant messaging activity, p2p, and so on) without hogging up system resources. But I haven't tried many others to compare, so there you go.
