Well Flip runs about 75% of the set plays for Hamilton. The Pistons had a killer play under LB where Prince would set a low screen and then postup right around the basket.

I haven't seen them run that play once this year.

Flip's freestyle offense looks to be backfiring right now. They seem to be taking too many jump shots as someone mentioned especially 3s. Sheed rarely goes inside. I don't think I have seen hamilton drive for a layup. Billups is in love with pullup/dribble 3. Prince is just free lancing out there. Big Ben is probably the only one attacking the basket.

When those jump shots aren't falling and they keep taking them, you are going to lost more often than not.

Exactly. I think this is a good example of Flip not being able to make adjustments during a game like Pop can. Ben had a bad rebounding game by only getting 5 rebounds. But yes, the Pistons take way too many jumpers. I've heard the argument from Piston fans that even though they take alot of jumpers, they tighten up their defense when the game is close. Well it didn't work this time.

True. Especially since Duncan is not back to normal and Kwame Brown is supposedly making an impact with his man defense in the low post. Our guard penetration and outside shooting will be key. And Bowen will have to do a number on Kobe.

It is called coming back to earth - the Pistons are still a formidable team but were never as fearsome as the media or many made them out to be.

They are the same team as last year, with a coach who still has proved nothing.

Respect the Pistons highly yes - fear them no, if Spurs health same or better, and especially if they get home court advantage - no worries it would be a great series that could go either way but my money remains on the Spurs.

Pace of the game, they have fewer possessions, but are allowing an average number at the F/G % rate.

Pace of game factors in for Phoenix, they allow 100 some such points, but their opponents 44.3 F/G % is a bit better than Detroit.

Hussker...that's pretty unforgiving for a guy from Nebraska. :lol

Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne suspended defensive star Christian Peter for just one exhibition game after he was twice accused of rape, once convicted and several more times accused of sexual assault, and, also, of "disturbing the peace, trespassing, urinating in public, refusing to comply with the order of a policeman, threatening to kill a parking attendant, and possessing alcoholic beverages while under the age of 21.

Now let's talk about Lawrence Phillips, a superstar running back to whom Osborne gave second, third and fourth chances, despite his no contest plea to tossing his girlfriend down a stairwell, in addition to numerous other accusations of assault, sexual and otherwise. Since he's left Nebraska, the guy's life has been one long arrest record.

1) We're actually 2.5 games if you consider that the spurs dont have the tie breaker vs pistons, so in terms of the standings we have to look at it that way cuz tying the pistons in the W-L department wont get us hca

2) The pistons are struggling in rebounding massively. the toughness inside they once had is all but gone. i'm really confused at the way they're playing. the defense has slipped and they arent hustling on the boards like they used to. I'm sure they'll use the 3 days to clear their heads and come back firing on chicago

its nice to see that the spurs at least have a slight chance of getting hca in the playoffs now though there are still a decent amount of games to go! :spin

Seems like with the amount of threes that the Pistons shoot they consequently negate one of their biggest assets in offensive rebounding. Long shots usually turn into long rebounds and with Wallace mainly inside the lane on most possessions that eliminates his toughness on the offensive glass.

Pistons, as "mediocre" as they are playing right now, a hobbled TD and a semi hurting manu isn't gonna come close to beating detroit right now. detroit seems to be playin down to the competition lately like the spurs do as well sometimes but detroit will get up for the spurs more so than anyone else, which is why as long as td isn't 100% as well as manu we're gonna have a long uphill especially without hca if we play detroit in the finals

2) As far as reference to verdicts, you are right...

Even though I think the Pistons would "Get up" for the Spurs, I agree. If the Pistons went into the game like it was just another game they would get their asses handed to them. They just don't seem to care right now. :sleep

That's how we all felt about the games vrs. Detroit in early season. We don't "get up" for games, we keep one level of concentration and go with it but those games were fucking pathetic. It was like we didn't even care to win moreless even want to keep it close. We had zero care in the world at the time and right now seems like the 100% oppisite.

As all Spurs fans know, first half of the season Spurs are one team, the Feb or March after is another. Every stinkin year.

The way Detroit is playing lately doesn't match half the intensity SA and DAL is playing with at all. So a game between the two wouldn't be close really.

Last three Spurs road games:

2/24 v. Memphis 83-80 win
2/15 v. Philadelphia 100-103 loss
2/13 v. Cleveland 87-101 loss

I'm sorry you couldn't get my point, and I have to spell it out for you. Road games in the NBA are not easy to win. The Pistons are not playing great basketball right now, but the last two losses were on the road against Western Conference playoff teams. The Spurs lost two of their last three road games. My point ... even for the elite teams in the league, road games are hard to win in the NBA. How much intensity are the Spurs playing with when they get blown out by a Cleveland Cavalier team?

There is my point.

I do not do drugs. I don't even drink alcohol anymore. I stay sober. You stay a bitter person for whatever reason. Do you have to always be so confrontational and angry? How bad do you need a hug?

Actually my point was to disagree with your statement: "The way Detroit is playing lately doesn't match half the intensity SA and DAL is playing with at all. So a game between the two wouldn't be close really."

Seeing, how even though the Spurs are 10-2 in their last 12 road games, those TWO LOSSES occurred in their last three road games, are they really playing the "best basketball in the NBA right now?

Miami and Phoenix are both 9-1 in their last 10 games, respectively. I could argue they are both playing better basketball than the Spurs. But, that's not my point.

And, how is telling me that the Spurs are 10-2 in their last 12 games "owning" me when it doesn't refute the fact that they loss 2 of their last 3 road games? It doesn't change that fact. You're seriously dense.

Well, Brutalis made a comment that if the Pistons played the Spurs right now, it wouldn't even be a close game. My initial post was all based on Brutalis' post that the Spurs are playing so much better than the Pistons that it wouldn't even be close if the two teams played right now.

The Pistons just went on a three game road trip and lost two games ON THE ROAD. Brutalis was insisting that the Spurs are playing at a much better level than the Pistons that it wouldn't even be close. I just listed the Spurs' last three road games to compare to the last three Pistons road games, to show that it is not indicative of how good either team is.

Pistons are definitely not playing their best basketball right now. But, to see the two losses, against Denver and the Lakers, and then make a claim that Detroit couldn't even make a game close against San Antonio is just silly, to be frank. I listed the Spurs last three road games to make that point. Perhaps I should have spelled it out in the initial post.

"This road trip finally ends. The pistons will have three days off, get some rest and please watch tapes and find out that's happening with this team."

I never thought the spurs should have fear when facing the pistons eventhough the pistons have blowned them out twice this year. The spurs are the best team. The pistons are close but they are not better than the spurs. That's why the HCA is so important this year. The pistons are overrated because they are not unbeatable. Now you really can see they are only humans and they play like shit when they are tired. Don't call that excuses. DAL only played two road games in the entire Feb. The pistons have been keep playing back to backs one set after another after the all star break, with no more than one day rest during those back to backs. It's a horrible Feb for them. I wish they can come out fresh after three day rests.

Looks like Flip Saunders is bringing his usual "dominate in the regular season, underachieve in the postseason" mentality to Detroit. Can't wait for the playoffs to watch Detroit lose in the first round with Flip.

aaronstampler
03-05-2006, 05:03 AM
flip saunders showed before that he couldn't give the necessary intensity for the championship to his team. that was the main reason behind minnesota's first-round failures. and this year when the play-off time when the tough ones succeed comes, i'm sure saunders and detroit will fail again.
and today i saw that derek anderson joined miami's rotation and contributed to the victory against atlanta. now miami's second five is payton - d. anderson - s. anderson - walker - mourning. i think miami will be a more dangerous opponent for us at the playoffs.

That's crazy talk. Nobody on Miami plays any D except their backup center. We can get any shot we want against them all day long. We gotta work for points against the Pistons. I think Detroit might sweep the Heat.

Any discussion about who's the best team or who's playing the best from Mavs, Suns, or Heat fans is absurd. There are two contenders in the NBA, until further notice, the Spurs, and the Pistons, end of list.

The Spurs and the Pistons know they can beat any of those other three teams whenever they have to, without breaking too much of a sweat. They don't play defense. They don't have the will to do it for 48 minutes. They just don't.

lakers played inspired ball, odom had 9+ assists, kobe had 40. they can beat anyone playing like that. pistons had a bad night closing down the lane, it happens.

JamStone

Even with his 40, Kobe wasn't the difference in the game. Kobe was still great, but he really didn't force too many shots. He was in foul trouble in the second and third quarter. And, the Lakers made their best run with Kobe on the bench. Lamar Odom and Smush Parker and believe it or not Kwame Brown's offensive rebounding while Kobe was being rested was the the main difference in the game.

Pistons, after the disappointment of the playoffs, came out of the gates with end of season/playoff intensity. Other teams came out of the gates with beginning of the season intensity. Now it's end of season and the other teams are moving it up a gear and the Pistons don't have a higher gear to go to. There still a top team but they're not head and shoulders above other top teams as it was pictured until the all-star break. They are on a par with the other two or three top teams who happen to all reside in the West.

although they have the best record in the nba right now, detroit has been losing their defensive identity since the start of the season. maybe their defense is still better than miami but heat has an opposite trend as riley gives huge amount of confidence to his team and they have a far better bench than detroit right now. many teams can not find a good outside defender whereas miami has two in posey and shandon anderson. to me, detroit's only advantage against spurs is they have 6-11 rasheed wallace to defend duncan instead of 6-8 udonis haslem. but when we compare this to riley's far greater ability of winning in the playoffs than saunders and miami's depth, heat will be more dangerous. that's what i wanted to explain.
