Okay, thats cool. BTW, how much $$$ do you make off a 10 day contract? :lol

Well you take the NBA league minimum, which is just under $400K and divide it by 82. And then that's how much you get per game during the 10 days. So, you get a little under $5K per game.

Sadly, they didn't credit him with the block and gave it to Mikki Moore by accident.
The block was awesome.. the commentators were going off that his hand was near the top of the square when he hit the backboard.

But they also didn't credit him with one of his FG misses.

They gave him 1-2, 2pts, 1reb, 1to.
He was actually 1-3, 2pts, 1reb, 1blk, 1to.

Oh well. He doesn't mind but is just happy to be there.

Sonics Notebook: Fizer out, Felix in
Sonics waive former first-rounder

By GARY WASHBURN
P-I REPORTER

Sonics coach Bob Hill attributed it more to the team's forward depth than the production of Noel Felix.

The Sonics did not renew the 10-day contract of forward Marcus Fizer, leaving the former lottery pick to sign with another team or head back to the NBA Developmental League. And the primary reason Fizer was allowed to go was shooting baskets at Furtado Center on Sunday well after his teammates departed into the beautiful, cool Seattle sunshine.

Felix stayed late at practice yet again, shooting mid-range jumpers and working on his ballhandling. He was working so long after practice that he had to yell to a Sonics' assistant that he wasn't overdoing it.

Because Felix is developing so quickly in practice as either a small or power forward, Hill said he realized Fizer wouldn't get much playing time in the final 17 games.

"We're probably not going to make the playoffs, we're working hard to develop things," Hill said. "To get (Fizer) minutes with the guys that are already here and still trying to win games is difficult."

Hill spent Friday working Fizer out during a voluntary practice and is convinced the former Iowa State standout and first-team All American still has something left to offer an NBA club.

"He really did a good job," Hill said. "He had a good attitude. He was in here early every day. I would venture to guess he was in here when he didn't have to be. I think he's an NBA player."

Felix has scored two points in two games, but has done most of his improving in practice. The Sonics like Felix's potential as a versatile forward who can play defense. He was chosen as the Continental Basketball Association defensive Player of the Year last week.

"He can run, he can really jump and he is developing his jump shot," Hill said. "With Damien (Wilkins) and Rashard (Lewis), again, it's difficult to get him a lot of minutes. And he beat me in bowling. I told him it's not smart to beat the coach because I control the minutes."

Felix finished off Hill in Ray Allen's bowling tournament Saturday.

Congrats to Noel on getting his break. Hopefully he'll get some minutes down the stretch for the broken Sonics. I'm not so sure he should play against the Spurs though, everyone here might start calling him a thug. On that note I wasn't able to find any decent tickets for the game Sunday that I could afford. There are still some upper bowl tickets left (last I heard) so I might just go to the game anyway, but sorry to say no pics or game reports from me.

He played 20 minutes the last game but only played 10 minutes tonight. It's not because the Sonics are out of the playoff race.

Last game it was because Rashard was out, so Noel played backup 3.

Tonight, Petro is out for a week or so with a broken nose, so Mikki Moore backed up Swift at center and Noel backed up Wilcox at PF.

Wilcox had a monster game .. 26 points and 24 boards. The Spurs should go after him this summer.

He makes pro rated league minimum for the year and Rasho has $42 million over 6/7 years.

It was funny to actually hang out with Noel after talking to him on the phone/email/text everyday for so long without seeing him. (I hadn't seen him since summer 2004). We went out last night. And then LJ, Kris and I took him out to lunch today on the Riverwalk.

He got LJ and Kris seats with the Sonics "families" for tonight's game. So that was kind of funny -- two diehard Spurs fans sitting in the mix with Ridnour and Rashard's families.

Here's a picture of Noel and Kris from after the game:

It was really cool to hangout with Noel, Kori, and LJ.

Noel (pronounced No L) is a really nice guy. He pretty much refutes that commonplace NBA stereotype of being all into himself and whatever else negative stereotypes people may have of some NBA players.

He fit in pretty easily with us and was as regular and cool as a NBA player could be. A lot of people stared at him, but he seems like he already got used to that and just acts like it's no big deal.

He has really good taste in cars and which shoe company should sponsor him.

It's pretty obvious why all his teammates like him. When I watched him on the court, he was always high-fiving everyone and messing around with the other players, but off the court he's kinda the same way.

He told us he would do some good dunks in warm-ups and threw down one especially vicious dunk. If he gets in the SDC, watch out, we could have a new champion.

I learned two new word meanings from him - clean and hot. You have to figure them out for yourselves.

He's just a good guy all around. Ego isn't a concept when you're around him. He's laid back, likes to laugh, and types a lot of text messages.

As far as basketball is concerned, I'm really hoping the Spurs take a strong look at him. He's a real 6'9'', 250 lbs and can jump out of the gym. His forte is defense and he gets along with pretty much everyone. He needs a little bit more experience, but once he gets that he can be a solid pro. The awesomest thing is he wants to learn and improve. Like Kori told me, he's the first one in the gym and the last one to leave. No, really, he is. He's got super work ethic and the talent is there. His jumpshot is right and improving.

Not a bad sign at all.

kris
04-12-2006, 02:36 AM
PS We saw a lot of Sonics in the family section. Luke Ridnour is the type of guy where your thinking, "I could take him..." Probably not, but I wouldn't mind playing a couple of games matched up against him if I got back to peak shape. He's a starting PG in the league, but still he just doesn't look as impressive as the other guys.

Rashard was wearing rediculous jewelry. Like the kind you could sell and buy an expensive house with. It was cool to finally see some non-fake jewelry.

Earl Watson, Damian Wilkins, Mike Wilks, Nick Collison, and Johan Petro also came out.

Mike Wilks was wearing a lemon custard suit that made him look funny.

They have a team option on him for next year. He's going to spend the summer working out with some of the Sonics players, then go to summer league. At the very least, he'll be in their training camp this fall. I wish that other teams could have worked him out this summer, but part of signing for the rest of this season was giving the Sonics the team option for next year.

They have a team option on him for next year. That's right, you said that. I think it should work out ok for him, depending on Seattle's draft and offseason (i.e., unloading Fortson). He might have to spend some time on the bubble again, but if he keeps up the good work, he'll just make himself too valuable to let go.

They might look at a variety of packages to get rid of any of Rashard Lewis, Luke Ridnour, Nick Collison, Danny Fortson. But I would guess their main priority is to try to get Wilcox's re-signed. It will be an interesting summer for them.

Noel will either stay in Seattle when the season ends (but not very many of the Sonics players stick around in the summer) or go back to Los Angeles with Earl Watson and work out with the UCLA players on the things the Sonics want him to work on. Then he'll go back to Seattle in the beginning of July to start prepping for summer league, etc.

They picked him up this year not for this season but for next. So I think he should be okay. He's developed a lot. Nothing much shows up in his stat lines yet. But he has developed a good jumpshot (it's always him, Ray, Damien in the finals in practice shootouts). And he's caught on to everything they've taught him at both forward spots.

We'll see what happens.

Actually you aren't that much older than me.

Yeah, but we know you don't even look at dudes unless they're a decade younger.

Without looking it up, I know he's a player that played in the early 80's for a variety of teams. (Did he play for the Spurs for a season?) I'm guessing (remembering?) he's a small forward but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, he played a half-year with the Spurs. His claim to fame was that he was the first player to go straight from high school to the NBA. A great leaper (back when there were only about 1-2 per team), and decent guy to have off the bench.

I cannot deny that.

Having said that, I had to go check: it looks like he and Darryl Dawkins both started the same year.

First mistake.

Did you ask Noel about his block on Yao, BTW?

Yes, I did. He thinks it's cool, but I think he wants more. I asked him how many blocks he thought he would average if he played 20 mpg and he said 3. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't.
