he seems to be a mini-stud, any chance the spurs lose nazr or nesterovich this summer and get this guy? or is it a contract year for the dude?

we won't have enough money to throw at him when/if he is a fa, unless he and parker are really close.

Him and Parker are close, but I have no idea what his contract status is.

Yeah, dude's gonna get a max contract somewhere. I don't think the Suns will be able to afford to keep him, which is gonna be their loss.

besides isn't he undersized for a center, I remember Tony saying he was best as a small 4.

but don't get me wrong the guy is pretty damn good, and would love to have him.

I think the team has the option after this year. My guess is that they pick it up. He will be a free agent after next year. This is what I think. I could be wrong. I would love to see him and Tony on the court together. He would be a great replacement for Bowen.

Diaw is suffering from Nashitis. Or better known as Joe Johnsonism.

They picked it up just before this season.
He will be a restricted free agent during the 08 summer if he doesn't sign an extension this summer with the Suns.
Diaw is Parker best friend : they phone each other every day. They played in the same high school team when they were 16 and a lot in junior/senior french team.

dream on. Even w/out Nash he's a triple double waiting to happen every night. EVERYONE is gonna try to get him

Diaw is a point forward, better than Odom at his best. Best since Pip.
Yeah, it would be wonderful to get him, and having his best friend is a serious draw, along with all the success we have had.
However,
cap-wise, I don't think we can afford him unless we give away talent like Manu.
Teams will not feel like taking on our "average" players salaries to help us afford a future great player. We would have to jettison some serious bank;
Nazr, Barry, and Rasho would probably do it.
How would we do that?
Not going to happen.

Diaw has been "Di-awesome" lately.
Until Pop put Bowen on him and he scored like 2 points in the second half. :lol

There are holes in Diaw's game, still. But Phoenix masks them better than anyone else could. He'd be dumb to leave, even for more money.

Its interesting. Diaw is still on his way up as is Tony. They would be great together. Who knows what might happen???

I wanted to trade for him last summer.
Buy low.

I agree with Chump. He was available last year. The Spurs should have tried to get him. I think I recall Tony lobbying to get him.

Of course I had no idea he'd blow up like this, just liked his ballhandling and D.
And the fact a deal with ATL could clear alot of cap space.

He's signed with the Suns through next year, but they're likely going to extend him this summer. there's been talk of a 6/$40mil range.
He still needs to learn how to finish around the basket - I'd like to see him dunk more. But he does have a lot of upside. His mom is considered the best french female basketball player ever, so he has basketball in his blood.

but nash didn't play last night and the guy still did impressively.

Yeah and Joe Johnson is having such a piss poor season in Atlanta to boot.
19 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, good shooting...
Richardson, maybe, not Johnson, not Diaw.

Johnson is not playing anywhere near what they paid him to do, or what his stats indicated he would do if he were the main bananna. Joe is even down in rebounding, only up 3ppg, and his 3 pt shooting has dropped from .478 to .355.
Diaw is doing great in this system, especially with Nash. But I doubt that he would pass so well or shoot so well if he were someplace else.

And doing it for 1 night without Nash, in that D' Antoni offense, doesn't really prove much.
I am not saying that he sucks, but merely pointing out that he is in a great situation team-wise.

:lol Yea right. 6 year/40Mil is MLE money (and it was made up by someone on a Suns forum). This guy will have near-MAX or MAX deals on the table if he waits a year... If he and his agent aren't complete idiots he won't sign an extension this summer unless he gets a HUGE deal offered by the Suns.
IMO, the guy is better than Joe Johnson, and look what happend to him after a breakout playoffs. A walking triple double that can play all 5 positions and run the point from the center position is not going to sign for less than star money. He may be riding Nash's coattails a bit, but that won't matter. He looks like a stud out there and teams will pay him accordingly. I would not be suprised at all to see him get a Shawn Marion/Andrei Kirilenko type deal.

^^^agree with FreshPrince.
You can't give too a 6 years extension to a first rounder after his third year, 5 years is the max.
Last summer :
- Tayshaun Prince get a $48M/5years extension.
- Mike Dunleavy get a $45M/5years extension.
- Caron Butler get a $46M/5years extension.
Diaw will be 1 year younger this summer than these players last summer when they signed their extension.
I think he can get a $50M/5years deal.

Hello everyone,
i'm glad to see that Diaw start to impress NBA. I love this guy for years (i'm french so it was more easy for me ... :-) ).
I'm glad to see him try to attack the basket ... even if he still soft.
About his contrat ... yeah Phoenix allready took the 4 year option (same for Barbosa ) ... but they will talk about long term contract this summer. I don't think Boris seek for the best contract but for a good with the best team for him ... Unless Los Angeles and Phil Jackson (who seems to really apreciate our french Pippen) make a shot, Phoenix has a very good shot to sign him this summer for a respectable contract ...
I will be very surprised to see him take the risk to be free agent in 2007 instead of signing a good deal with Phoenix. (40 for 6 years is really good for me). It's just not that type of guy ...
So, my point is : don't overrated him after underatted him ... He still has to prove what he can do with Amare next to him and in a play-off configuration.
i'm afraid that he can lose minutes and he needs it because he lets the game come and never force .
Bye, and thanks for this great forum.

He should come play with Parker and Mahinmi. Get ready for the world cup and Olympics together.

Man, if there's any illustration of just how bad the Hawks are, Boris Diaw is it. I recognize that Nash is a hell of a player who makes all his teammates better, but no one is going to turn a scrub into a nightly triple-double threat. How could a team like Atlanta not have room for this guy? Props for D'Antoni for recognizing he had a hell of a talent there.
