DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks said they would be without starters Josh Howard and Adrian Griffin and top reserve Devin Harris against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.
Howard has been hobbled by a strained left hamstring. He missed four games and then left after playing 12 minutes Sunday night in Sacramento. Griffin strained his right hamstring Saturday night against Utah, the same game that Harris strained his left thigh.
The loss of Howard and Harris hurt Dallas the most. The Mavs are 16-0 when Howard scores 20 points and Harris shares point guard duties with Jason Terry, with both usually playing together in the fourth quarter.
After playing Cleveland, Dallas will have 18 games left. The Mavs and San Antonio Spurs are in a tight battle for first in the Midwest Division and likely the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, which would mean home-court advantage in a probable second-round matchup between the clubs.
Keith Van Horn was also to be out because of a sprained ligament in his left knee that's sidelined since March 3. (I consider this a plus for Dallas)
