I was just wondering how it related to the NBA, since it is in the NBA forum....

The guy went on to become the first Argentine to play in the NBA (and was only recently dethroned as the most effective Argentine bench-warmer in the history of both the NBA and the Pistons.)

Steals-shmeals.

Steals is such an overblown stat. Peeps say Arenas (or hughes, cant remember) is a good defensive player because he averages alot of steals. Whoopety-doo. Rebounds and Blocked shots are indicators of a good low post defender.

perimeter players (ie guards) dont have the benefit of those stats. yet the undebateable best perimeter defender in the league averages how many steals a game?

exactly.

Hughes. That was in SI a year or so ago. Their so-called NBA scout section said that Hughes gambled more than the average poker player.

I know, that's kind of why I posted the question.

When I learned about this I was pretty surprised. You would expect a player that could/would have finished with the most steals in NCAA history be some big name guy who is a star in the NBA.

Sanchez barely played in the NBA, played on like 5 teams, but barely any minutes. The most minutes he's averaged is probably like 5 minutes/game or so with the Sixers in his first year.

I saw a lot of Hughes last year. I thought the guys who picked the All-Defensive team would know what they were doing, but that changed when I saw him as 1st team.

He's an okay defender, but should not have been anywhere near All-Defense. I think he benefitted because his backcourt mate (Arenas) played worse defense than any guard not named Nash.
