I know that the Slovenian team is now playing/getting ready to play in the qualifers. When do those games end?

I'm wondering when Rasho/Beno will be back in San Antonio.

I've heard the same thing, but I can't tell wether its just a rumour or an agreed fact. In that case I'm pretty sure Beno would also fly to the US before the end of the tournament.

In order to qualify directly to the euro championship they have to have the first or second spot of their group guaranteed - everybody else has to go through additional qualifications.

The beginning of the article is not very interesting, he talks about how good the wins in Turkey were for the moral of team Slovenia. He says that the qualification will not be easy and how they would really like to start with a win against there first oponent - France. He says that the team is well prepared and optimistic.

The two most interesting questions are the last two which go something like this:

The game was good. There was some very good dunks from Brezec and Nachbar! Slovenia dominates in reabounds!!!Udrih play very good. It was god colective team game!!!!
Nesterovic had very bad field gold for 2 2/11!!!!

Lampe- well I thought he would be better. But in NBA he should be in better shape.
Poland lost. We never will be better if it won't be better coaching and more money for young talents. Sport sucks in Poland. We just have few great athlets. The best national team is volleyball. But they don't have balls.

Nesteroviæ - I"m little concern about him. He didn't dominate. He got some bad decision in the game ( on offensive end).
Udrih - bad shooting game - but he feels comfortable in fast breaks and dribbling. He also is a good passer.Beno will be a great backup.

The Czech Republic men's team believe they will go into their third qualifying against Slovenia on Wednesday as underdogs.

Coach Michal Jezdik's team slumped to a crushing 89-56 defeat in France at the weekend, while Slovenia currently top the group after an 80-71 victory at Poland.

Jezdik told www.basket.idnes.cz: "Slovenia have won their first two games and they are big favourites for this one as well.

"I am not sure if (Pavel) Benes and (Ondrej) Starosta will play. Benes has a cold and Starosta has a fever. I am sure that these problems are because of how many games my players have played over the last two months.

"I think that Slovenia are favourites but their style of play should suit us better than France.

"They play fantastic basketball and their team has a good structure.

"This game should be a great challenge for us because Slovenian basketball is very well known."

However Jezdik believes his team can offer some real hope for the future if they can become difficult to beat at home.

"The best way how to show Europe that we can play a good basketball is to win all our home games. Slovenia has not a weak place in their line-up. There are only two players in their team who play in the Slovenian league.

"The others play in Italy, Greece and the NBA. Beno Udrih and Jaka Lakovic are great playmakers and they are very strong together with Bostjan Nachbar, Sani Becerovic and they have a great center Marko Tusek.

"I think that we'll have to concentrate on our defence again and try to surprise them on fast breaks.

When I talked to Beno on the last day of the Rocky Mountain Revue, he was so excited about coming into training camp for the Spurs healthy. He said that he was going to work out and get in the best shape of his life, play for the Slovenian team, and when he got to San Antonio we'd see the "real Beno".

I hope his knee injury isn't as serious as anticipated and it's just a sprain or a bruise. :(

There's absolutely no news about Beno over here. Its almost like he's not even here anymore. I've spoken to officials in the Slovenian federation and they claim their last contact with Beno was 7 days ago (his official status in regards to the national team is "injured").

At this stage I would actually suspect the Spurs organization to know most about his whereabouts (i.e. his flight number :) ).

Rasho, should already be there.

Regarding Rasho's early return to the US I have not heard or read anything negative. The deal was agreed before the start of the qualifying rounds and when Rasho did his part (three consecutive wins), he was free to go. Also very important is the fact that Rasho left after we were virtually guaranteed a spot in the championship next year, so no animosity here! (Beno's injury did make the deal a little more risky, but just slightly - Slovenia needed 4 wins to be 100% sure to qualify).

Rasho was denied entry into the US by the federal government on national security grounds and was placed on a flight back to Slovenia.
