Yessssssssssss. :elephant We are finally going to have a really good team.

Our offense just has improved big time and our defense was already bad ass.

Now if we get Michael Huff and an OL in the 2nd round. This will be one of the greatest offseasons besides trading Herschel Walker and getting 3 picks which eventually brought the Cowboys, Aikman, Irvin and Emmitt.

Most people don't realize just how much of an impact a placekicker has on a team. This move is huge! Cowboys just kicked themselves into the playoffs.

They got like 9 picks in that Herschel Walker trade.

Herschel Trade didn't yield Aikman or Irvin, and if I remember correctly it technically didn't yield Emmitt either. I think the trade got Alvin Harper, Erik Williams, Steve Walsh, and a bunch of late picks which Jimmy and his drafting genius took advantage of.

The Cowboys will be better, but the NFC East is still very tough. The Seahawks will still have the inside track for the best record since they play in the NFC West.

This was a major hole they filled today. I like this guy. Yes he is an idiot, but a darn good kicker. They still need a safety in my mind and one more in the O line. They still have the draft.

Vanderjagt is a freakin choke! He will miss every crucial kick and totally fall apart. I hate this signing.

How bout Todd Peterson from Atl.

No, but there's not much out there...

Still waiting for Mare to be released by the Dolphins. Edinger, Cortez, Cundiff, ??? GB and the Pats are still looking for a kicker too...

I don't see how anybody can worry about Vanderjagt when you look at what the Cowboys have been running out there to kick for the past 8+ yrs. :drunk

I would of got Mare or Vanderjagt. Mare hasn't been released and don't really know if he is. Vanderjagt is the best option.

todd peterson 23/25 last year and is a 12 year vet. cost less and he can't be any worse than vanderjagt in the clutch.

Hmm, I haven't heard Peterson talked about as a possibility...

Unfortunately for Vanderjagt, people are just remembering his last kick. He's still the most accurate kicker ever at 87%. Here are his stats vs Vinatieri, including stats for what Yahoo considers kicks when the game is "close" and "close/late"...

Vanderjagt
Indoors 87.6 (127/145)
Outdoors 87.4 (90/103)

Vinatieri
Indoors 94.4 (34/36)
Outdoors 80.4 (229/285)

Vanderjagt
Close 89.1 (90/101)
Close/Late 89.5 (34/38)

Vinatieri
Close 80.0 (136/170)
Close/Late 78.4 (29/37)

He'll be fine...certainly better than the Cundiff / Cortez / Suisham (sp?) kicking combo from last season...

His accuracy in clutch situation is actually statistically better than Adam Vinatieri's. The main thing people remember is Vanderjagt's miss in this years playoff game vs. the Steelers. Also people only remember Adam V's Superbowl game-winners.

Historically, Vandy is a more accurate kicker overall and in the clutch.

Good signing. Although this is a DUI waiting to happen.

I guess I would have preferred Vinatieri, but Vandy is solid, no one on here can argue that. No kicker is ever going to make every kick out there but he will make the majority of them.

It would be nice if he weren't kind of a jerk, but Hell, I really can't complain. This is definitely a big upgrade and potentially the best kicker in Dallas history.

He'll be fine...certainly better than the Cundiff / Cortez / Suisham (sp?) kicking combo from last season...I remember 3 kicks specifically. The one against the Dolphins in the Playoffs to go to the AFC Championship game. The kick was from about 35 yards or so and he had only missed 1 or 2 kicks all year. Of course, he choked that one and cost the Colts a chance at the superbowl. Then I remember 2 years later when Tampa was king of the hill and Indy played them in a big Monday Night Game. 24yarder to break some kinda record and again he bangs it on the cross bar in one of the all time ugliest kicks. Then again last year for a chance at the superbowl, I knew before he kicked it he didn't have a chance and boy he didn't even come close.

Just my thoughts. I would have preferred Todd Peterson or Josh Brown of Seattle. My dream would have been Vinatierri.

My standard of clutchness is apparently different than those bogus stats above.

I would've preferred Vinateri, but that apparently was not an option.

The way to look at it is that Vanderjagt is lightyears ahead of what they had last season. He will make a ton of routine kicks over the course of a season that the Cowboys' kickers last season made an adventure.

My only concern with Vandy is on kickoffs.

Vandy wanted to kickoff, but evidently it was just a pissing match between him and Polian. He'll be fine on kickoffs.
